Any difference between the Moose and MSR engine guards???
Mounting hardware, oil drain plug, chain plug access.

engine guards
Contemplating radiator guards/pump guards from happy trails or dual
star. Any feedback? Is the nerf bar with highway pegs at happy
trails overkill.

I never had the nerf guards. I've had the happy-trails radiator guard
AND the dual-star radiator bar. Either is fine for a street tip-over.
For offroad riding the dual-start bar is far superior. It's also a bit
heavier, visually intrusive (breaks up the delicate design lines of the
KLR), and a little more time to install.

I have the Happy Trails radiator nerf with highway pegs
on my 03 and they have been great. Of course,
I haven't had any 'major' crashes to test them,
but for minor downs they appear to protect as intended.
The highway pegs are great for a optional change in riding
position on the long street runs to/from dirt.
Happy fork brace and skid plate are excellent add-on's
as well !

No such thing as over kill, Had a friend that made
me a set of crash Rad bars and i sold a few sets of them , called Daves bars,
Between the bark busters and the Daves bars its saved my but 3 times, Go for
it, Dave will not build any more Rad, crash bars, but i hang my KLR from the
roof of my barn with tie straps to do tires and such with the bars.

engine guards
I have the Nerf bar with pegs and really have appreciated the pegs on a
couple of long rides. Recently installed the 6.5 gal tank and am doing some
adjustment at the welding/fab shop to make the rad guard fit over the new
tank.
The Happy Trails folks are really good people to work with.
