Hey there, how's everyone doing? I have only posted a few times in the last few months, mostly asking questions, but today I finally did it! I purchased a new green 06!!! Now the hard part is waiting the two more hours for the dealer to finish up their prep so that I can go rescue the bike from them:) Time sure goes by slowly when you are waiting......... Anyways, I live right between Chicago and Milwaukee in Antioch, Illinois. Does anyone else live nearby that wants to do some riding soon? Thanks for all the great information I have learned so far from this group. I am so excited to finally be a real part of it. Matt B.

Cool, I'll ride on over this afternoon :) So, check axle nut for cotter key, make sure forks are not in shipping position, make sure right side controls are in correct order.... What else should I check when I go to pick up today?

Before you leave: add, Maybe that the oil cap is snugged on. That the oil plug does not have any oil leaking around it. In a post, less than a month ago, someone said the dealer should be able to provide you with a copy of the check list that the tec who set up the bike, used to set up the bike. It would be a good place to recheck, after you get home. Earlier, I added the cotter key to axle nut because a friend actually had a front axle nut come off on the way home (years ago on a 250 Suzuki) and it always stuck with me. The tec did not install the cotter key nor did he tighten the nut. and After you get home, Someone recently suggested that you take the manual and go over most of the fittings, nuts, and see that they are at least at the right torque settings. I wouldn't worry about the 8mm bolts that hold the engine cases on the block, but the engine mounts, triple trees, handlebars, axle nuts and such. It's not that you don't trust the tec; it's your bike, and your hide that depends on all the fasteners doing their job. and change the gas! revmaaatin. --- In DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com, "Matt Brooks" wrote:

Rev, I really like your suggestion on changing the gas. I've been changing the gas since I bought it. Seems to be the most important part of owning the KLR. :) Spain -----Original Message----- From: DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com [mailto:DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com] On Behalf Of revmaaatin Sent: Saturday, April 01, 2006 1:16 PM To: DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com Subject: [DSN_KLR650] Re: Tick...........Tock.......... Tighten the fairing bolts/screws, one of mine never made it home from the stealership, 12 miles! In fact take a good look at the tightness of pretty much everything, on a regular basis :-) Enjoy, I know I am Andy Red '06 150 miles ........

Great choice. I'm north of Milwaukee. This weekend is a wash but there aught to be time in the coming weeks for a ride through Kettle Moraine or the beautiful hills of northern Illinois (thats a joke). I'll keep you posted. Regarding pre-ride, I like the idea of reading the manual over and becoming familiar with the bike. I'm sure everyone knows someone who knows someone who had a problem. That doesn't mean you've got to check everything but its just good sense to check the safety stuff first. To the best of my knowledge the Clymer should be OK. The bike has not changed at all for 06 and 05 was a carbon copy of 04, 03 and 02 (and 01 also). I really like the Clymer. You may save a couple of bucks on ebay. Have fun and let us know how the first few days went. ] Looking forward to a ride. Mike KLR-A15-Quasimodo R90/6-Doc

Matt congrats on the ride, what dealer did you get it from ? Got mine in Des Plaines, but have since moved north, oh try waiting at the dealership while they are preping the bike.. talk about painful. Check out: http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/enduraid/ or http://www.geocities.com/enduraidrally/ Will be a few hours north of you, do not think I will be able to make it this year, which is a few hours south/west of me. Hate to tell you this, but the 2001 is a faster bike.. ;-) Dooden A15 Green Ape

You guys could meet up at the "Bong Rec Area", never rode there but it always looked tempting. Get them bikes dirty... Dooden A15 Green Ape --- In DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com, "Mike Peplinski" wrote:
