Now for this oil discussion; discarding several refinments and lab.
achievements is silly...
There are definitely quality, fair, and poor oils. Valvoline,
Pennsoil, Supertech are entry-level, non performance lubes.
We could compare Valvoline to Amsoil and be shocked at the poor
quality of Ashland Manufacturings low standards for 10w-40. Ashland
is the gigantic company that refines for NAPA, Valvoline and a
number of other generic oils(Wal-Mart's 'Supertech').
Lucas, Redline, or Amsoil have been created to be synthetic and high-
performance. Recently Mobil and Valvoline have jumped on
the 'synthetic bandwagon' but don't boast the level of technology
and reliability. Remember, synthetics have been around since 1972
these smaller companies have had the single drive to make a better
synthetic that doesn't break down and lacking natural properties of
crude(varnish, gum, mineral deposits).
None of us would drive all year with Wal-Mart brand oil under our
hood or in our crankcases, but with a synthetic it wouldn't worry me.

And some of us have. I've been using Wal-Mart's 10W-30 Supertech synthetic and Supertech filters in our three cars for a couple years now. I only change it once a year. No problems. ed A17> --- In DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com, "Jim" wrote: >> > None of us would drive all year with Wal-Mart brand oil under our >> > hood or in our crankcases, > > -Dave Berube >> > >> > > Um, some of us would...> John >

I do just exactly that, Dave. America's Favorite Retailer sells API-certified oils and they are not going to risk the wrath of the API or the FTC over mislabeled oils. My car calls for SJ, their oil meets SJ, case closed. RM>None of us would drive all year with Wal-Mart brand oil under our >hood or in our crankcases, but with a synthetic it wouldn't worry me.

Rotella T 5W-40 is a Group III [quasi]synthetic. Sorry for providing a Spamsoil link, but it's about the best explanation I can find: http://www.synthetic-solutions.com/definitions.asp RM> At 7:18 AM -0800 3/29/06, Blake Sobiloff wrote: > >I tried Shell's Rotella T 5W-40 pseudo-synth (it's really just well > >refined dead dinos) > > What's that supposed to mean?
