weird starting problem

Post by Balam Acab » Wed Feb 22, 2006 8:26 am

Hi guys... long time no see... I have the weirdest starting problem I've ever faced. The bike will not start with the start button. Engine turns, it has enough juice, I have a spark. If I push the bike it will start immediately with no effort at all. Once running it does so great. The spark plug shows proper fuel mixture. If I stop the engine it will start sometimes withj the electric started. Not every timne. If I let it sit for a few minutes I have to push it again. The local mechanic says it has a valve problem, he thinks my intake valves must be out of sepc. I have not checked this because as I write the bike is cooling off in his garage. Long time ago I bought a used KLR and the valves were completely shut and the bike ran more or less ok. So I don't know what to think. I'm pretty much in the middle of nowhere. My visa is running out and I need to fix this as fast as possible. So any input will be greatly appreciated. Juan

My first guess: your battery is marginal. Add distilled water and charge it. It puts out enough to run the starter or the ignition, but not both.

It's a long shot, but could any of the safety interlocks (clutch, side stand) be acting up? -- Blake Sobiloff http://sobiloff.typepad.com/> San Jose, CA (USA)

Not the same Gorilla Snot (brand name) a drummer friend of mine uses to hold onto his drumsticks, is it? I can't imagine wanting that stuff anywhere near a chain, because *everything* sticks to it. John --- In DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com, "Mike Peplinski" wrote:
