Hello Everyone. I am thinking of some aluminium side boxes for my 97 KLR. I'm sure santa will bring them to me. I was wondering if anyone out in KLR land had a set of these? If so what are the size and measurements of these boxes? Please e-mail me off the list. Thanks! Rick.

I'm thinking of making a pair of side boxes (saddlebags) so am gathering information. I plan to use them for short camping trips and maybe some longer trips when I retire. Since no one around here seems to have a set, I am wondering about the best dimensions (particularly height and thickness) as well as mounting options. Due to the low power available it would seem that keeping the boxes as narrow as possible would be desirable so as to minimize wind resistance. Height will be an issue also due to ground clearance and passenger accommodation/mounting have to be considered. Any and all comments will be appreciated. Norm, I have pelicans on mine and like them when touring. A friend of mine rides a KLR also and made a decent set of side hard bags from hand gun cases. They we inexpensive and with a little creative rubber welting, he's got them waterproof too. They're not as heavy duty at the pelicans, but work well for him camping. I think he still used the HT racks. Greg A9 michgan

I mounted a pair of hard plastic photography cases on my Happy Trails SU rack. (Got them from a friend, for $50.) They're rugged, waterproof, large enough to hold what I need to carry, and fairly light-weight. Let me know if you'd like to see a picture.

I have Pelican cases on my 2002 KLR650 with home made racks. They slip on & off easily & lock in place with pad locks. You can see them in the Photos Section under, "Pete's KLR650". Also the bike is for sale. Anybody intreested? Pete A16 & DR650 --- In DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com, "fastmolds@..." wrote:
