gas mileage gone bad
Got a problem that I need your help on. I was getting 50 miles per
gallon on my KLR650, but now I am getting 40 mpg. The only things I
have done lately were to change my back tire to the Michelin Anakee and
I installed a bypass switch for the sidestand and the clutch. Need
suggestions on possible solutions to my problem. BTW, I live in east
Texas and and running 10W30 motorcycle oil.
Thanks in advance.

Possibly the float valve isn't closing? Here are some instructions I found
on another list. Haven't followed them myself. "Pull the carb. and open it
up. Check that the float unit moves. Remove the needle valve. Check the
tip. Blow out the hole where it makes the seal. Reinstall. Check the
float level. Should be good to go."

air filter checked?
open the spark plug and see how is it.
i suspect that your choke spring is jammed , do check it out.
if its not......
your carb slide rubber maybe stretched......
or your coasting enricher has a hole.
or it maybe just your plug....
or if u're unlucky , all of above....
hope you solve this soon. gas prices are killing everyone

Is your bike's chain too tight or loose, by chance? Does the rear wheel spin fairly well?> Got a problem that I need your help on. In my opinion, East Texas does not get cold enough to justify a 10W-30 oil. And, as I've posted before, with a 10W-30 you're flirting with pitting of your transmission gears. I'd recommend you stick with the weights recommended in your owners manual (10W-40 would be just fine). Of course, opinions are just like another body part...> BTW, I live in east > Texas and and running 10W30 motorcycle oil.

Have you noticed a drop in power at highway speeds? When I bought my KLR
it was low on power on the highway. Around town was fine though. Turned
out to be a torn carb diaphragm. When I changed it my gas mileage went
up to give me about 50 more miles per tank.
I'm in North Texas if you need any help.

Just got back from Ballinger Cyn Ride. It was great! This is a
designated OHV area and we were the only ones out on the trails.
A favorite riding spot for me, on weekdays there are rarely other riders and
the variety of trails is great. To bad Songdog Ranch no longer operates the
campground, had some good times there.
