Try Happy Trails. Get the one with the little kicker thingy on it, it's more expensive but much easier to get the bike up on it. -E

I concur, I am VERY satisfied with the Happy Trails model. The foot kicker is worth every additional penny! -GFM On Mon, 18 Oct 2004 17:27:37 -0700 (PDT), Eric L. Green wrote:

Hi everyone... I was wondering if anyone out there, had any comments on getting the centerstand for their KLR. I have been thinking about getting one, just wanted to hear from someone who had one. Likes, dislikes, etc.... Thanks Mike Orlando, FL

Mike, I purchased one of the Studebaker Group's Afrika Stand back in January of '04 from www.isallgood.com. Price was around $99, and at the time shippping was free. http://www.mindspring.com/~gbyoung2/misc/klrstuff/afrikacstand1r.jpg http://www.mindspring.com/~gbyoung2/misc/klrstuff/afrikacstand2r.jpg http://www.mindspring.com/~gbyoung2/misc/klrstuff/afrikacstand3r.jpg For the price, the stand is certainly functional, however, there are a couple of things that could be done to make it better: 1. The stand swings too far forward and goes past the point of where the rear tire is completely off the ground. More of an dogleg in the bend would correct this and still make for a stable platform. 2. Better bushes in the pivots. If the bike is ridden in the rain or through a lot of puddles, mudholes, etc., over time the stand becomes stiff and doesn't pivot freely. A couple of shots of PB Blaster, WD40, etc., and a little up/down movement to exercise the 'hinge' make it okay for another 6 mos., or so. I've thought about driving out the pin, then drilling a couple of holes to make grease passages, then install a Zerk fitting, but just haven't done it yet. Other than that, it works, and didn't break the bank with its cost. I purchased a Dual Star years ago when it was the only one available. It's a good deal harder to lift the bike on it then a good stock unit on say, a BMW. The main bolt that it pivots on broke after a few years; I replaced it with one from Ace. The springs that hold it up break once in a while; I have extras on hand and travel with them. Still, all and all, it's a lot better than not having a center stand. I believe every non race bike should come with one as in the old days. Bogdan, who stands in the... Center ?

Yeah but our bikes are dual-sports. I've survived with mine in a few rough places but, then again, some people smoke two packs a day and live till 90. Bogdan

Why is it such a bad idea for off-roading? Is the CS going to drop down (say, after a hard landing) and grab something? Hasn't happened to me ... yet .... --John Kokola

I guess if you were worried about it you could zip tie it so it wouldn't move. I always carry a few in my tool kit. Bogdan
