over pants and jackets
I have just bought a 2006 KLR 650 and I love it. I ride 40 miles
round trip to work and when I have time I ride forest service roads
and in the mountains. I am wanting to buy some over pants and a
jacket to wear this fall/winter. I have looked at FirstGear and Joe
Rocket and am unsure which is best. I live in North West Arkansas and
the winters can get kinda cool. Not wanting to spend alot of money,
ex-wife makes sure of that plus I work in Law Enforcement. Any
suggestions/comments would be appreciated.

I have some Joe Rocket leather overpants. I wore them to commute to work (work for me, then, was "moderately dressy") until a spell of really gross slushy weather made me break down and buy an Aerostich suit. But I really bought the suit because my jacket wasn't up to keeping the weather out, more than the pants. The pants were windproof and reasonably weatherproof and they didn't cost much money. I'm not sure if they still make them but if they do I'd recommend them. They were a little hard to find (most Joe Rocket dealers didn't have them) but I got them from Motorcycle Accessory Warehouse eventually. Thor> I have just bought a 2006 KLR 650 and I love it. You won't go wrong for the money with a
First Gear Kilimanjaro jacket and the nylon overpants that they sell
or
Joe Rocket Ballistic jacket and the Ballistic overpants.
I have FG Trekker jacket and the JR Ballistic 4.0 overpants, works
pretty well. Pretty waterproof and keeps the wind out well. The Kili
is a similar construction jacket but 3/4 length and I wish I'd bought
3/4 to begin with. Keeps the wind and weather off better.
The JR Ballistic pants zip up really high on both legs so
doffing/donning over jeans and boots is no trouble at all. I haven't
tried the FG pants myself yet.

I just bought a pair of FirstGear HT Overpants at
newenough.com on closeout for $119. These are
highly recommended over at the ADVRider forums.
Sure can't beat em at this price. Also check
motorcyclecloseouts.com, usually good deals there.
Last winter I got a Cycloke GT Pro there for $165
($495 retail) and like it better then the old 'stich.

Also look at the offerings from Cabela's. Not a motorcycle supplier
but I rode from Montana to Maryland in mid-March, 1986 with
temperature in the teens. Carhardts were great.

What a great purchase, I wish I could ride my KLR everyday to work. My wife
is getting aggravated over all the excuses I use to ride the KLR every
Saturday and Sunday. I seem to take it out about 10 times each day. I am
running out of excuses real fast.
Joe Rocket seems to have some great prices, however check out some of the
specialty sites on the net.

I Like regular cordura jackets, and then buy a waterproof linning. That way
you have something that breathes good when not raining.
Good shopping and good riding.

That's great, but in the middle of brooklyn autozone doesn't even stock SAE connects... they're only full of fake spinner hub caps and shit to pimp out your hyundai. If you think I'm dropping by my local farm and fleet after work you've got something else coming> Nah.
