I assume we are talking about the one that is removed from the mounting base with the push of a button. If so: http://www.klr650.marknet.us/jcwtrunk.html -- Doug Herr doug@...

Looks pretty tailor made, now I just have to find $40 of other stuff to get from JCW to get the free shipping- :) I like the quick attach/reattach feature; should be really handy. Wondering though, has anyone ever broken the mounting tabs off in normal use? I assume breakage is a distinct possibility if the bike goes down, but can stress from a full load break it?

mine is always loaded. Stock lasted almost a year w/ it being mounted back past the stock toolkit location. Maintenance accidents and offroading has broken the lock and hasp. the two rearward tabs broke off one by one and now I just rely on two bungee cords attached acrros the case and hooked to a the HT SU racks. Some times I use it as centerstand in apinch wich really aint that often with stone cold reliable klr. Even if you buy the case off ebay for more than what JCW wants your getting a fair deal.

Wow, use it as a centerstand?? Sounds really rugged.. So did the mounting tabs break off from the jouncing around of a fully loaded box, or from an impact? Would it be overkill to use added bungees cord as backup to secure it, if the mounts are still good? I do that with my tank bag though it's never given me any indication that the snaps could come off, just because I'm nervous about the thing falling off from some fluke. With it behind me, I wouldn't know for miles, so I'd like to make sure I don't lose all the "stuff" I keep back there.. I'm inclined to do that same with the trunk, but maybe I could skip the added step if it's really secure.

Howdy, I've never broken any parts off but other listers have mentioned the bag popping off in rough going. I've used a bungie to help hold mine down and it's held in place under extreme conditions. However, the hinge pins both vibrated out. Solution: put a nail through and bend the ends to hold in place. No problems since. Jeff Jones

Good to know about the hinge pins, I'll take some steps to retain them when I get it- Sounds like it'll hold in all but the most extreme conditions. Still, I may use a small paracord lanyard with a carabiner just to clip quickly to the bike, if for no reason than to let me know it's come undone as it clunks against the side. I like to tether everything I can, 'cause I'd lose my rear end if it weren't attached. :-D

Same as Jeff. I route two bungees through the handle of the box and under to the luggage rack. Never had an issue.

Mine hasn't broken yet, but it does seem to rattle a little too loosely for my tastes, so I might go the bungee cord route to avoid any future damage. I will say this: Dang that thing holds a lot of junk! Gabe A19 :
