starter?

Post by goddessondra » Tue Aug 30, 2005 6:02 pm

I'm a newbie w/ a '90 KLR 650. With a new and charged battery, when Ipush the starter button the battery seems to competely drain ( thenuetral light goes out etc.) I tried a new starter relay but nochange. I disconected the cable to the relay then re- conected anddisconected from the starter - and after pushing the starter buttonboth ways the battery didn't drain. This was my attempt to check forshorts. I took out the starter and connected it w/ jumper cables tomy car battery and it seems to work fine. Any ideas? Thanks, Sandy

Same thing happened to me last Thursday. There is a drain on my battery somewhere. I've been jump starting my bike everytime I ride it. It starts immedaitely after I ride, but goes dead overnight. --- goddessondra wrote:

I'm by no means an expert, but if there is no short in the circuit, then perhaps your battery is not delivering the amps required by the starter. I'm pretty new to the KLR world and noticed that the 94 I just bought doesn't really crank like my Bandit 1200, but it's spins better than my Virago 920. The battery seems to keep a charge OK though. I wouldn't jump from a car battery. Car batteries have way more amps than a bike is used to. Something will burn through and then you'll really be into something. MikeG
