I had gotten really tired of faded plastics on my 93KLR,which are supposed to be blue and white. The front fender was especially bad,so I decided to try a trick I used to use when I worked in a body shop back in a former life.I removed the front fender, threw it in the tub, washed away all the grit, and wet sanded it with 1000 wet or dry sandpaper....pulled it out, dried it off,and rubbed it down with finishing compound(turtle wax,the 1.49 cheapo stuff)then put a good quality wax on it....the fender looked like new,I spent about 45 minutes on it,and the total cash investment was about 6 bucks...I hope this isn't too low tech or cheap for you guys with faded or dull plastics....just make sure you wash out the tub when ya finish,or your wife will have ya sleeping out with the bike....course I am sure some of ya already are

faded plastics
I recently purchased a "sun-baked" 200 KLR650. Faced with the option
of purchasing OEM plastics or trying an alternative, I opted on the
lesser expensive. Being found of simple black, I removed the
plastics
and painted them with a "bumper and trim" primer and paint. The
parts
were allowed to cure for well over 14 days. Needless to say, I am
not
really happy with the results. The paint chips and peels everytime a
bug or pebble hits it.
I am looking for options/suggestions. Has anyone tried LINE-X or
similar product? Anyone had any success with the Krylon-fusion line?

faded plastics
Krylon makes a special paint that sticks to plastic. I have never used it on a motorcycle, but I have used it on PVC pipe, and a shop chair. Both have been painted for over a year with no peeling or chiping. It is available at Wal Mart. It may be worth a try.

I always seem to want things that are not available anywhere (for example, a simple frickin' four digit 12V _LED_ clock for the KLR).
