cylinder head needed

Fellow listers, I have a friend in New Hampshire who has run into a problem. He is helping some buddies work on a recently purchased 89' KLR 650 and they need a cylinder head. I believe any head from 87' to 95' will fit. Anyone confirm or deny this? If anyone has a useable cylinder head for this bike, preferrably complete, that they'd be willing to part with please drop me a note. Even any pointers in terms of scrap yards etc. that might carry this part would be helpful. Thanks, Steve Pye

Mine is an '02, but even earlier years(in black)will do. Thanks in advance for any leads/tips on this hard to salvage part. JC

nklr ninja 250 opinions for female beginner

Post by Analog Aardvark » Thu Jul 21, 2005 7:25 pm

My friend Tina bought one of these second hand as her first bike, after years of riding pillion. I think her opinion was that it it's a great first bike--small, light, cheap as hell, plentiful supply, and in demand only as a first bike or track bike so if you drop it a bit it doesn't make it worthless. She's also been able to take it on some multi day trips with her boyfriend (on a fz1) and enjoyed it, though they certainly don't do the kind of mileage he would otherwise. If you're buying secondhand, be careful, because most of them are first bikes owned by people who don't know any better, or think of it as sort of disposable and don't spend time maintaining it... and the rest were used as track bikes. The thing has squishy suspension, even for a 250, though, and makes no power below chain-saw type rpm, so it's a bit scary to ride in traffic for a beginner--not much of that zip out of trouble stuff. She wants to get rid of it for a yzf600 (???) or sv650. I've not ridden the 500, but it's a powerful bike for a firsttimer. --Luke
