klr gas smell in oil
exhaust pipe rattle
A tiny thing, but it bugs me. The little heat sheild
on the pipe right after the header makes a rattling
sound. Iv'e reefed the screws as tight as I dare, but
it still rattles. Any suggestions?

Try placing a washer under the screws. The screws are probably hitting
the bottom .

klr gas smell in oil
At last was able to buy MY bike ! Being very particular about oil
changes ,changed oil and filter at 40 miles ,what came out looked more
like Slick50 than oil ,dealer said no break-in oil was used ,changed
oil again at 450 miles ( 520 miles total ,so far ). This time the oil
was coal black strong smell of gas , I respected all the break-in
procedures, did not even went over 3500 rpm . Is this normal for oil to
be this black and smelly ?the gas smell worries me more than the
color . Feed back would be great . Thanks

Rip the heavy piece of crap (the entire muffler) off and get an after market
exhaust. I got a Supertrapp many years ago and have been extremely happy
with its performance and looks. You will be amazed how heavy the stocker
is.
