Subject: Re: [DSN_KLR650] NKLR Music question
In the 50's it was Little Richard then in the 60's Cream, "Disraeli Gears".
Kurt,
showing my age.
Go Little Richard!
When we were kids, we liked to torment my mom by sneaking that album on
instead of Perry Como,
crank the volume way up, and just wait for her to turn the "Hi-Fi" on. Then
we'd run for our lives.

Speaking of Cream, rumor has it I will be recieving a recording of Cream's reunion concert performed at The Royal Albert Hall any day now. Not much of a chance of Cream coming stateside, Ginger Baker apparently has some problems getting a visa to come here. Anyone have some frequent flyer miles for me to go see Roger Waters perform with Pink Floyd at Hyde Park London on July 2nd? This talk reminds me of when I saw Roger Waters and Eric Clapton at Byrne Arena, Meadowlands NJ- Pros and Cons of Hitchiking Tour. Conall-have DAT recorder will travel.> > Kurt, > showing my age. >

Blue Oyster Cult, 1972 debut album. "Cities on Flame". I already liked the hard edged stuff, and was totally hooked by then. I'd already been listening to my older sister's more heavy rock records. Although I liked acts such as Black Sabbath (first album I ever bought), Deep Purple, etc., I tended towards lesser known metal bands. I still haven't changed. Love the heavy music! ...However, lyrics like Winger's "She's only 17" didn't do anything for me (argh!) when my own daughter was a teenager - my youth is lost in time, but I still like the music. My Mother used to refer to Little Richard as that screaming N word. I
think it was then I realized that parents were not always perfect or
wise. Little Richard was the essence of early Rock and Roll (although
his lifestyle habits were ............a little strange). He, Elvis and
Jerry Lee Lewis put that music on the map. Then the British took it to
a whole new era.

Elvis Presley singing "Teddy Bear" in 1957.....my first "grown-up" record,
the LA Philharmonic performing Beethoven's 9th at a Young Peoples Concert
in 1959, and my first James Brown album in '62. Started playing drums
immediately afterwards. Got a degree in Percussion in 1974. support your
local musician. music in a box sucks. support live music. Most
interesting music out now.....Steely Dan and John Mayall and the
Bluesbreakers (all editions). Both best experienced live!!!!
Hey Geo, how 'bout Duke Ellington, Glenn Miller or Tommy Dorsey? Benny
Goodman, Miles Davis, Art Blakey, so much good music, so little time.

Hawkwind, late 60's early 70's
I'm an urban guerilla
I make bombs in my cellar
I'm a derelict dweller
I'm a potential killer
I'm a street fighting dancer
I'm a revolutionary romancer
I'm society's cancer
I'm a two-tone panther
So let's not talk of love and flowers
And things that don't explode
We've used up all of our magic powers
Trying to do it in the road
I'm a political bandit
And you don't understand it
You took my dream and canned it
It is not the way I planned it
I'm society's destructor
I'm a petrol bomb constructor
I'm a cosmic light conductor
I'm the people's debt collector
So watch out Mr. Business Man
Your empire's about to blow
I think you'd better listen, man
In case you did not know

running the k&n filter w/o the airbox cover
I recently installed the K&N air filter on my '05 - I wanted to
break it in (3000 miles) before I made an mods to the intake, so I
just installed it a few weeks ago. The guy at the Kaw dealership
suggested I try running the K&N without the air box cover, as he
does, to gain extra airflow (interstate use only of course). I tried
it, out of curiosity, and it made a very noticeable difference in
freeway power. My mileage went from 45mpg to 53mpg over the course
of 500 miles, and there was a significant difference in power over
50mph.
I put the air box back on a few days ago (as I was going off road),
and left it on for a 250 mile interstate trip. I noticed a decrease
in freeway power, and my mileage was back to 45mpg.
The only real concern I have with leaving the air box cover off for
freeway use is -- am I leaning out the mixture too much? Am I likely
to cause damage to my cylinder over time? It's running at roughly
the same temp, and I have not adjusted the main jet (carb is all
stock)... so I thought I'd post the question for some of the more
veteran KLR riders to answer. Thanks for your input.
