That would be true if the parts didn't fit and line up...but they do. I've already loosened my setup and moved it around, it's not under tension. They just need to be initially set. Oh, do use some blue loctite...on just about anything that screws into a KLR ;-).

Any cutting of the levers would just involve taking the ball ends off. Shouldn't be any issues with doing that. Most enduro and XC riders do it as a matter of fact and then position the guard to be in front of the lever. Its the way I've always set handguards on my bikes. Pat G'ville, NV

I put wood pros on my A17 earlier this spring. The left one fits gorgeous... The right one I had to pound and beat to reshape a bit so that it would clear my brake ok. The instructions that came with them said to bend if necessary, and it took some cussing, but now they're great. My only problem is deciding if I want them horizontal, so they protect my hands, or tilted down a bit to match the levers perfectly. When the levers are totally horizontal it's awkward standing, but when the woods pros are tilted down I feel like my little paws are vulnerable. Split the difference for now. Find a way to make em work, they're strong as hell and have saved my levers a hundred times already. Oh, and if you somehow manage to smash them hard enough to twist out of position (say, by dropping the bike semi upside down onto a huge rock), stop and loosen the allen nuts and readjust and retighten in place. You'll feel like a dumbass when you snap your clutch lever off way up some trail later that afternoon because you didn't bother to fix the guard. -Luke ugly duckling A17 PS You can make your stock plastic guard fit over the woods pro as a weather guard with a little work from a torch to reshape em and a couple bolts. --- Pat Schmid wrote:

Sean, When you talk about "bending the bar", you are talking about the handguard, not the handlebar, right? Did you have any difficulty doing that, or use any particular technique? Did you have to heat them to bend them? I have been trying to mount a set of aluminum handguards (MSR brand, I believe) and tried bending one in my vise, but I snapped the end off. :( My mistake may have been clamping the vise across one of the bolt holes at the end of the guard: the weakest point. -Matt in Boise, ID

No, I bent the hand guard, I put it in a vice, it was easy to bend. --- mbarney wrote:

Easy to bend? I had a tough time even when using a 4 foot cheater bar. Guess I need to work-out. -Tosh

A KLR is *SUPPOSED* to sound like a 1963 Volkswagon Beetle with a bad muffler! _E
