Hi guys, A friend of mine had the following question: I changed the fork oil, and the Kawasaki manual is confusing me. On my 97 KLR 650, I drained about 325 ml out of each fork, and replaced with the amount recommended by the manual, 365 ml. The manual then says that it should be 170 mm from the top of the fork tube to the oil level inside. Mine is more like 380 mm down. The forks are extended, and the springs are out, like the manual says. WTF? It rides good, and feels a bit stiffer (10W oil) Any suggestions? Please cc replys to James at mailto://jroe650@... 170mm down from the top with the springs out and the forks fully *compressed*.

The supplement manual says 190 +-2 mm, the original manual says 170 mm

According to the Cylmer manual it should take 355ml of oil per leg for a refill. After removing the wheel (I was replacing the brake pads and front tire) I removed the fork caps, spring seats and spring. Removed the drain screws and allowed the old oil to drain for about an hour. Then compressed the fork legs as far as they would go, measured and added the specified amount of oil. Measured the distance from thetop of each fork tube to the top of the oil level in each fork leg. S/B about 7.5". Myfirst measurment was 15", had to add an additional 150ml of oil toeach leg to reach the 7.5"requirement. This is a total of 505ml per leg. Has anyone run into this before? Which requirement should I go by, the 355ml oil quanity or the 7.5" measurment? I'm using 15W fork oil for the refill, weigh about 195 lbs. and occasionaly carry about 20-25 lbs. of luggage. I am concerned about blowing out the seals with to much oil. My riding is mostly on backroads, mostly paved but with frequent excursions on unpaved roads. Don't mind if the front is a little stiffer than stock, While I'm at it, whats the consensus on progressive rate fork springs? May put some in if they are worth the time and money. 355 ml sounds about right, be sure you measure height with the springs out and the fork tubes compressed.(not extended as I have seen some manuals state) Steve
