new bike...squeaking undertank
Just bought my second KLR (had a 600 in the late 80s).
Anyway, there is a squeaking sound coming from under the tank. I can
make it stop by gripping the tank with my knees.
Took it back to the dealer, nothing "wrong," so...nothing they could
do. Still squeaks.
So, before I take the tank off and put rubber grommets or felt tabs
between everything I can find, are there any suggestions? Concerns I
should take, etc?
Thanks for the help, Sean

Too Funny, I too am Sean, and I too have a squeek.
Best advice: Give up! I now have 9000 miles on my A-18
and I have tightened and retightened, lubed, padded,
you name it I have done it and the damn thing still
squeeks (Between 1500-3500 rpm (used to be constant).
Nope, your screwed, buy some bad ass sony ear buds and
an MP3 player/radio and call it good.
Ride on Sean!
Sean. Big fat Red Squeeky, my bike too....

just my 2cents, but maybe there's something IN the tank?
happend to my friend's r1100gs. there was tissiue paper in the tank.
the same ones used IN bmw.
another probability,
does you keychain have many keys?
my keys were ticking from time to time
radiator covers ok? the mesh in front of it can make those noises.
another place to look at , the head light holder. there is a damping
rubber there. if you don't have it , it ticks away at certain rpms.
tighten your legs then no sound eh? mmmmmmmmmm.
just open up and check.

Where the tank rests on the frame, try coating the rubber pucks with grease. Also, some weather stripping or adhesive felt placed between the radiator shrouds and the tank may help with the noise, and it will definitely keep the paint on the tank. I had this problem and fixed it by taking the tank off and then putting
it right back on again, making sure to seat it properly on the rubber
pucks.

I would say that checking the hockey pucks is a good idea. I had a persistent
birdie under the tank too. It turned out one of the pucks was missing.
