Actually the developed countries are having fewer brats or none at all which makes funding programs like Social Security, or the socialist programs in Europe, Japan etc..... difficult. Most of the worlds population is increasing in places like Central America, the Middle East, China, India, Brazil. Then they want to move here and work or sell us their products. If they move here to work, possibly if they don't strain our social services too much getting assistance, they will become good taxpayers and pay for the Social Security. And maybe also make enough money to pay for parks to protect the little bunnies and deer which like to sacrifice themselves into the grills or wheels of our cars and motorcycles. It is a complex world isn't it? Criswell

It's interesting how some anti-growth people argue for low-density housing to curtail overconsumption of resources in any given area. Others argue for high-density housing as it promotes more efficient land use. Overpopulation is the elephant in the room that neither side is talking about. Nobody wants to be the first to step up and say "Six billion people is enough -- I'm not breeding." RM

If you do the math, that 6 billion will fit an area the size of Texas' land area with 38 people per acre, and it would be about as dense as Rio de Janeiro or as third as dense as Cairo. China only ranks 77th in pop density and they have 1/4 of the word's population. A lot of places that vacationers define as paradise are more dense (Virgin Islands, St Lucia, Jamaica, Aruba, Seychelles, Mauritius, Dutch Antilles, Switzerland, Cayman Is.)
