staintune silencer

Post by Russell_Niesz » Fri Apr 08, 2005 11:20 am

I received my Staintune silencer last night. It was drop shipped out of Southern California so I received it in one day. The previous pipe I had on my bike was Laser (the quite model). The Staintune was probably the easiest best fitting after market pipe I have ever installed. There is no special hardware, it just bolts in place of the stocker. There is no mid pipe, so there are no adjustments to make. It fits perfectly, and has more clearance for my side racks than the Laser had. It also does not encroach on the fender like my Laser did. I think the Laser would have fit fine without the Happy Trails SU rack, but with it, I had to remove the riveted on name plate from the Laser. You can tell from just a good visual inspection that this is one high quality silencer. all the welds are perfect, the finish is mirror like, there are no rattles or anything. It has a removable baffle. My first test drive was with the baffle in. Man was there a difference between this and my last pipe. I was always a little down on the KLR because of it's performance, but the Staintune really woke it up. The bike now easily wheelies in first with no clutch and I can coax a wheelie when shifting into second which I could never do before. With the baffle in, the sound is throaty, but civilized. Once the baffle was removed, the bike had that bark that a four stroke with an open exuast has, but it is no louder than my XR with a White Brothers pipe with 8 disks. I noticed only a slight performance increase with the baffle removed. I was so happy with the performance of the bike with this silencer I rode to work today in the rain, and I very very seldom ride to work in the rain. I just couldn't resist. I would highly recommend this silencer to anyone. If you live in the Sacramento area, you are welcome to check it out on my bike. Just drop me an email. As a side note, I also went up one size on my slow jet to a 42 and switched to a KLX needle at the same time I installed this silencer. Russ

Russ, where did you buy the StainTune from? From: Russell_Niesz [mailto:nieszrj@...] Subject: [DSN_KLR650] Staintune silencer I received my Staintune silencer last night. According to my distributor, this pipe doesn't have the USFS stamp of approval and is NOT spark arrested. I have a Staintune pipe on my VFR and it is a nice exhaust. I bet you would have found the same wheelie results with your Laser Pro Duro and the jetting changes. There is no magic exhaust system that is going to make lots more power without making more noise. Yep. I use these -- http://www.etymotic.com/ephp/er6i.asp -- which are similar. Love 'em. FYI while on the subject -- don't carry your iPod in your magnetic tank bag. D'oh! BE --- Chris wrote:
