Supposedly uptight wealthy NY retirees are flocking to VT and noisey motorcycles do not fit into their retirement plans. The Jamaica ride was a real cluster.

This from another list: "This *only* applies to class 4 roads. Class 4 roads are dirt and not maintained by the state/town. They're maintained by the people who live on them. This started because about 400 dirt riders showed up on a class 4 road and tore it all to hell doing roosts and digging ruts and other stuff. The people who lived on the road had to pay to get it re-graded." --John Kokola

Re-read it John...... It applies to all roads and highways - The added section (Sec. 3. 23 V.S.A. 1493) requires that ALL organized motor events get a permit....... According to how they define 'Organized Motor Events' - a group of 7 riders traveling down the road with a pre-planned route means you need a permit.... Kinda scary when you think about it........ -don

I think you need to re-read it, it allows towns to apply for permission from the state to require permits for those events on class 2 & 3 roads under their jurisdiction. I don't like it, but it's not a blanket restriction by any means. Kind of like the Jeepers that tore the hell out of the FM road last year just before the Fall Colors Tour riders rolled through for the first rest stop. The farmer that owned the farm property on both sides of the road looked plenty PO'd when the motorcycles started rolling through the ~2 foot ruts left by the jeeps. Most class four roads I have seen in say WV for instance are maintained by the owners that actually own bull dozers and grading equipment. One of the owners spoke with said there is no way the state could maintain these roads so the property owners that usually own the property on both sides of the road maintain them. The same people that tear up roads are the same ones that leave trash, beer bottles, cans etc since they don't have their mommys and daddys with them to clean up after them.

That was the intent behind 'Critical Mass.' The bike messengers keep having protests that involved hundreds of them riding in a group and screwing up traffic the last Friday of every month..... No one can stop them because there isn't anyone in charge and no set route - a small random group heads out and everyone follows....... -don
