seized motor
This is not a KLR question BUT someone has offered me a "free" motorcycle
and I think the piston(s) are seized...I was considering picking it up just
so I could have a project bike to work on and enjoy getting back up and
running BUT (again) is this a "don't bother" situation?
It is I think an late 70 early 80's Yamaha 650 special with 11,000 miles on
it. It overall is not in poor condition everything seems to be orginal on
it...
thanks, John

Oh ya the motor is "seized" in the sense that is has been sitting around for
years and I was not able to get the motor to move with the kickstart, maybe
with a battery the starter may crank it over, but I haven't gone there yet

First find out what exactly it is. Then figure out if it is worth a
f0ck.

Hey if it is FREE what do you have to lose?????????????????????
Do you want to play with it???????????????????????????????????
If not get it and give it to someone that will play with it, or
someone that wants to learn something about M/C's.
And if it is near Ky get it and give it to me, I'll play with it.

...or if it's near NY, give it to me!
Anything is worth taking for free. You could always part it out on
ebay.

food for thought: an xs 650 has been turned into an enduro more
than once. my friend has an xs and they are very easy to work on.
a great way to learn motorcycle basics. grab that one up. put some
oil in the spark plug holes let it sit over nite and see if it turns
over for ya in the mornin.
glenski - might be able to help with xs basics if ya need it

My confusion Pat, I thought that you already had a WP shock on your KLR and
were looking to replace it with a new one. Thanks for the info.
Nope, got mine and I'm happy with it. This was a case of where I was helping
Matt track down someplace where we could get a price quote and happened to
stumble onto a what could be a nice deal - Jim's trying to ramp up his new
business and is offering incentives to get people in the front door - and so I
passed the information on to the group. All I know about LE is that from time
to time you'll see the name in dirt bike and sports bike magazine articles. I
got a couple of stickers from him back at the '97 Hangtown National and his
business is in Campbell, CA - maybe we have a lister in the San Jose area
that could check him out and report back?
