Well done "Eric the Great and Powerfull Math Wiz". 8^)
But IIRC, 8 inches is just the rim size (diameter) and actual value
of the variable r would then be something close to 6in vs 4in (given
r = inflated tire diameter / 2, and making no allowance for load).
... nit picking 101.

it seems to be a good thing that i didn't pursue engineering, doesn't
it?

I just bought a 4x8 folding trailer w/12inch wheels for $200 from Harbor
Freight. Took about 1/2 day to build. If folds up nice and I can roll it around
like a Ping-Pong table. I just need to go out and buy a deck and tiedown point
for it. I was also lucky since they have a store about 5 miles from my house.
If anyone wants a picture email me back.

There's a company that makes a cycle carrier that attaches thru your trailer
hitch and carries the bike across the rear of your vehicle. (Mototote...?)

Good find. Please keep us posted on how easily it is to fold and unfold.
I've been wanting a trailer but don't want to take up space in my garage
that could be put to use holding more bikes. Something that sets up and
tears down fairly rapidly would do the trick.

They have trailer hitch carriers.

A trailer hitch carrier wouldn't work well on a Jeep Wrangler, you can
only mount a class A hitch on the Wrangler (200 pound max tongue weight)
and the spare tire is mounted on the back and would interfere. People who
carry bicycles on a Wrangler generally get a carrier that straps to the
spare tire because of that.
The only choice, alas, is a small trailer. The Wrangler will tow 2000
pounds so that won't be an issue.
One more thing: In some areas, U-Haul rents motorcycle trailers. You might
want to investigate their prices and see if renting a trailer occasionally
will be cheaper than buying one.

Thanks All
I will rule out the trailer in a bag. The harbor
freight unit or the one at the following link ( with 2
optional motorcycle rails) looks much better.
