Hi all, Hope to pick up a new (to me) KLR A13L next week, right before I spend 2-3 weeks overseas. I've read that hard anodizing the fork lowers is a very good thing to do, but I haven't heard of too many people doing so. Am I ill informed? If not, then I'd love to send the forks off to be anodized while I'm away. Any recommendations on who to do the work? Yes, hard anodizing the forks is a good thing to do, but looking at the bang for the buck improvement it would be way down at the bottom of my list of things to do. It will minimize fork stiction and minimize the wear of the slider. Most of what you've been reading I suspect has been written about improving USD forks. Until the USDs came on the scene folks didn't find much need to anodize their forks. The upside downers have a bad problem with stiction and hard anodizing is a solution, but a costly one. If you want to have them done find a dealership or shop that caters to dirt bikers or road racers and they are bound to have the name of local shops that can do it for you. Elden Carl has worked with Bob Bell of Precision Concepts in San Diego on anodizing the tubes, installing the Roessler series Progressive springs and some revalving. I've ridden Elden's bike with this setup and it is excellent, its on my list of things to do to my bike. A link to Precision Concepts can be found in the FAQ. Actually I turned Eldon on to where to anodize them, years ago. It's a aerospace approved company, wher I used to send tons (literally) of work. He told Bob about it. If you can send me the lowers legs only, they can be done for about $65, plus shipping. That includes bead blasting the outside surface - requuired to remove to old finish. That is for the natural color, sort of a charcoal gray, with a slight greenish tinge, due to the alloy of the material. They can be done black for $5 more. This is HARD anodize, a very different animal than soft anodize. All the best, Mike

Good info Mike. After they are done, is the inside spec the same as stock, or slightly larger, or slightly smaller? In other words, if a guy has some worn out tubes with 20,000 + miles on them, what will the final result be inside of the tube? MrMoose A8 (Barbie and Ken special)
