what type of switch is this?

Post by Jon Till » Sat Feb 05, 2005 5:46 pm

Hi, While reading through Marks site I noticed this switch assembly...... http://www.klr650.marknet.us/hyd-3.jpg Obviously this is not the stock switch assembly on a KLR. What is this off of, where do I get one, and is it a direct replacement for the stock one? Thanks, Jon...

I not only know what switch that is I found the cheapest price for it when converting my DR400Z! Look up "Shade Tree Mechanic" back east somewhere. I paid about $46. There is a connector on it too. I don't know if it is KLR friendly or you will have to cut it off. By the way, it has push cancel for the blinkers. eBay Red - A18 Mike Hagen Crestline, Ca Mike@... Thanks for all the info on the switch :) I didn't realize until I looked at the info that I will need to relocate the choke also but that looks like a good idea anyway. It appears that depending on where I get it from I may, or may not, have to do a little wiring which is not a big deal. Thanks again for all the replies, Jon...

I really don't get what the big complaint is with the stock switches. They seem fine to me and not worth replacing for $70 if they are still working. What am I missing? Mike A18

The switch being discussed has several nice features over the stock switch. You can run with the headlight off, all lights off, or just parking lights. It also has a 'push to cancel' turn signal switch as well as a 'high beam flash' switch. It also relocates the choke off the switch to the left mirror mount bracket. Now, all that being said, you're probably right - may not be worth switching if your stock switch is fine. I bought one as my switch was damaged by the PO. Mike, What Tom wrote below is what attracted me to the switch. I especially like the push-to-cancel turn signals and just the overall look of the switch. But as Tom said, and you questioned, the stock switch really is fine. Will I get one? probably. But there are a few other things I would like to add to the bike before I replace the switch. Is the self-cancelling feature of the turn signals a stock item? I had thought it was something that the PO added, and I've been meaning to get rid of it. Geez I had self-cancelers. --John Kokola

That should read, "Geez I *hate* self-cancelers." --John Kokola
