I am new to the DSN_KLR650 Group. I bought my '05 back in Nov of 04.
I have been reading about people have problems with the side stand
switch when riding in wet weather. I am already planning on by
passing the clutch and side stand. I am doing the clutch because
already having issues when first starting the bike. As soon as I put
it in first it dies. Start it up and do again, away we go. Input need.

safety switches
Best solution is to bypass all teh safety switches in one operation
by removing the relay from the circuit and jumpering or soldering
together the black wire and the yellow/orange wire.
The relay can be found on the left hand side downtube of the frame,
below the rear of the gas tank.
Removing safety switches is dangerous, do it at your own risk, I am a
trained professional, don't try this at home, etc. etc.
Moose knows the exact procedure and can probably describe it far
better than me. I just know what it looks like and how to do it. Not
real strong on directions...
Thanks

safety switches
Thanks for the info. I have seen the link you provided. Excellent
description. This is my first new bike where everything works. I am
used to the bikes of my past with no switches. I do want to modify
like the link states, so that I can easily put back to stock if I
every sold the bike. Which I am not planning to do anytime soon. The
KLR is an excellent bike. I have buddy that has almost 34K on her
bike and still running great. Thanks for the info.

It sounds like the side stand on yours (dies when clutch is
released), and I like the thoughts of putting a toggle switch in-line
to disconnect the safty switches when needed. JMO

I like the idea of a switch. Do you have this on your bike. I never
thought of a switch.

I'm all ears.
Obviously I don't need one (today), but that's interesting.
They didn't offer one in 03 when I loaned them my Triumph, otherwise I
would have scored a setup for the KLR. As it turned out, they weren't able
to make Sprint ST mufflers because of the way their pipes mount vs. how the
Triumph can mounts. That's why I scored a system for an XR...
Go to _www.fmfracing.com_ (http://www.fmfracing.com) and look under
4-stroke dirt exhausts and there is a listing for the "Q" muffler to fit "KLR
600/650/Tengai '84-04" Product # 042004, $329.00. A friend has that series on his
XR650R and it looks and sounds very nice.
