: price of 2005 klr650

Mr Moderator if this post is not in compliance please remove as it is my first. I was wondering a ball park price for new Klr650. Local dealer (Houston) is asking 5100. I have been riding a klr for 10 years (1989 model) that has been reliable, but is getting old. TIA Bobby

Not sure but I think list is something like $4,999. The local dealer always tacks on freight and set-up bs. The dealers generally sell all the KLR they get so there is not a lot of pressure to lower the price. Also there is not a lot of markup in the KLR. From my experience: Saving a couple hundred bucks is not worth the price (your life). Pay full retail from a dealer that employs expert mechanics and knows what the &$%#@ they are doing. My brand new bike had a loose steering stem nut (lots of fun), a bone dry air filter (glad I checked that out), loose throttle cables (imagine the disasterous end to the $300 I saved) and loose axle nuts. Do not suppose that every dealer knows how to assemble the mighty KLR! (or a trike) Be Carefull!! Become your own best mechanic. Kevin A17

List is $5099.00. I just bought mine for $4999.00 and this particular dealer doesn't charge for freight and setup. I had to do some searching to find one that didn't charge these fees.One other dealer wanted $5099.00 plus $589.00 for freight and setup, and they said they sold all they could get at that price. Best 2 - 3 hours anyone ever spends are those going over every nut and clip when their "New to Me" bike 1st hits their driveway/workshop. In a 2 whld universe there's nuttin more important to survival than knowledge, training and a healthy mistrust of 'stealers'. Js

$4999 no freight, no setup at my local dealer (Honda and Kawasaki) Callaway Motorsports, University Ave., Riverside CA If you're going to haggle with your dealer, rather than beat him up on price, ask for a discount card towards parts, gear, service, etc. I scored a measly 10% discount card (I have heard of, but never seen, 20% cards), and every time I go in there for some parts, I get a few bucks off the invoice. Which can add up after a while. Got me a new clutch lever on order for $4.46, you do the math. Them XR 50's are maintenance hogs!
