I've seen this practice in every forum that I belong to. My guess is that lots of folks don't know how to delete unwanted parts of the message. I was guilty of this when I first got a computer. don

Body properly deleted. Uh, newbie to the list, but a www veteran (~'94), curious as to why this group is still using a mailing list, rather than a forum? Seems to me that there would be enough vendors out there that could provide support... Mailing lists are cool in that you see all threads, and mailing list are a major PITA because you see all threads.

OK, my bad, I had come across the www.klr650.net/forum/ but in haste I failed to note that you had to register to even read the posts. Since it (forum layout) is, well kinda unprofessional looking, I thought it was not very active or even operational. That being said, what are the differences in knowledge/members between this list and that forum? I personally haven't used a list since like '97, and I prefer the forum format...

Maybe try to get a gmail.com account. The mail reader there is auto-threading, and I believe will make mailing list reading much more forum like. Me, I think you're cuckoo. I'm a www-veteran of roughly the same time frame as you (maybe a bit earlier; I started young), and you can have my mailing lists and terminal based email clients when you pry them from my cold, dead hands. erik

I like the 'community' feel of the mailing lists, and they seem to be a better choice for groups of a smaller size -- like when you have a mailing list for a particular kind of bike. I prefer this list the way it is, for instance. When you have a broader group of folks (say like advrider.com, or wera.com) then the advantage of picking and choosing the threads you want to view becomes more important. JMO --John Kokola

It's pretty active; not quite as busy as this list, but more so than most with about 2000 members. A lot of folks from this list are active there as well, including quite a few that I consider to be reliable sources of advice. I'm gonna say that the overall level of technical knowledge is slightly higher here, but maybe it just seems that way because the yahoo list isn't as pretty.
