rider down and cornering

Yesterday on my way to work I was doing 70 in the carpool lane on the 60 freeway in so cal. I hit a car jack and my front tire went flat immediately. I could not control the bike and was heading towards the wall. I was slowing down as quickly as possible I finally lost it when I was doing 30. When I went down all I could think was that someone was going to run me over. So before I even stopped sliding I jumped up and ran towards the wall.. Nobody hit my bike or me. I have some road rash on my arm and leg and have some bruised ribs. 3 people stopped within the first minute after I fell the first one called the police. The second asked me if i needed to call someone so i called my wife and told her i was ok but was in an accident. The 3rd had a pickup and offered to put my bike in it and get me out of the middle of the freeway. Well He did more than that we wrestled the bike in the back of his truck and when we were driving he offered to take me home (about 30 miles in the opposite direction he was going ). Well I ended up just having him drop me and my bike off at the hospital near my house. Ohh The bike is ok too I think. I snapped a bolt on the peg-mounting bracket and broke a blinker light. well hello, still strapped up with a broken and dislocated shoulder...all the way to canada for a ride..rode day 1 from stettler ab to fernie bc..day 2 bull river road on the gravel dumped it at 70mph...looking at bc from a goophers point of view my next thought was wheres my f--cking bike at ..found it and had to ride 47miles back out...bullet proof bike but my shoulder still hurts..stay safe...billy...northern england..2months later ------------------------------------------------------------- Sign up for ICQmail at http://www.icq.com/icqmail/signup.html

List, I was very saddened to learn of another rider death not long ago. Gary Bettes of Fresno Calif. was one of those guys you meet along the trail. He was kind, generous, sharing. He attended the last three Cal Posse Spring roundups at Songdog Ranch. There are numerous riders whom I'm sure recall him. He was always willing to share his knowledge of the local area, or to partake in a ride and share routes first hand. His klr upgrades, including a recent exhaust cannister 'secret weapon'(a co-development with Mr. Krisman of spark arrestor fame) he was eager to share as well. His rather lumberjack stature was overshadowed by his grace and kindness. Gary was one of those guys you didn't see often, but you'd see him regularly.....Someone you always expect to see again. It was last May when he died. Still, word never got here til now. He was out in front of a group of riders he was leading....far enough so no one knew what happened. For some unknown reason his KLR swerved off the road to the right, then back across the road left, down into a drainage, and then impacted a cement culvert. I believe he was a lister for awhile and he enjoyed the magazine. I extend my heartfelt condolences to friends and family, many of whom I may not be aware.
