ever compare f650gs to klr650?
Cutting through all the whining and such, this is the best eval I've seen.
Now since we're straying a bit from a pro KLR format, how would one stack
the Suzuki SV650 against these 2? What I expect to hear is that the SV is
little more than a modern version of what we used to call a "scrambler".
Remember the Honda and Yamaha street bikes with reinforced bars, upswept
exhaust, tiny skid plate and knobbie tires?

I hear that there may be a shootout of bikes that their manufacturers
bill as adventure tourers in an upcoming "Motorcyclist" magazine. Don't
know which issue or which models they will be comparing or under which
conditions but its got to be better than yet another 600cc sportbike
shootout.

Perhaps you are thinking of the Suzuki DL650, which uses the SV650's V-twin engine? Even there I don't consider the DL650 a competitor to the KLR unless you aren't going to do any asphalt-free riding other than hard-pack dirt and gravel roads. Just my opinion. I put about 3000 miles on a DL 650 in Mexico in October, wonderful bike but
the front plows like mad in anything loose or soft and the front header pipe
limits clearance in anything rough. I think it is about the best all around
street bike I have ridden in years but it is not close to being a dualsport
IMHO.

Or maybe he's thinking about a Suzuki DR650SE? My take on it: Has much of the goodness of the KLR (and extra simplicity and ruggedness of air cooling), but the seat is a disaster and the fuel tank disappointingly small, and it doesn't have the wide variety of farkle that the KLR has. It also has about the same amount of power as the KLR, so don't get your hopes up there. Still, it is definitely a viable choice over the KLR. It depends on your priorities -- I valued range and seat comfort over offroad ability, thus chose a KLR. If you are more dirt-oriented, a DR might be more your thing (though even a DR650 is a pig compared to a real dirt bike, like the DRX400). -E> --- In DSN_klr650@yahoogroups.com, "Mike Peplinski" > wrote: > > Now since we're straying a bit from a pro KLR format, how would one > stack the Suzuki SV650 against these 2? > --- > I own both an SV650 and a KLR. Sounds good to me... How is the weather there, and when would be a
good time?
