If it starts slipping you'll know. You grab a handful of throttle and the tach jumps about a grand and then backs off 500rpm. I started noticing mine was going on uphills first, then it gradually got worse and worse and now I can't even wheelie it in first gear (I might have contributed to the wear of my clutch by trying to loft the front end in 2nd gear....slip, slip , go!). Mine went at about 11k miles but I bought the bike used...I think you can expect a lot more than that if you are the first owner and don't slip the clutch much. dat brooklyn bum Any takers yet on my question about heavy duty springs? Hey Tumu, I'm going to get them for my Tengai when I do the clutch soon. I had my grip measured at the physical therapist just for fun and found out that my left is 10% weaker. HD springs will be good exercise to balance out my arms. I wouldn't worry about Popeye arm unless you're a lefty. Mark B2 A2 A3

If the clutch slips when the lever is out and the cable is correctly adjusted then the clutch may be worn out. You may also notice that the force to pull the clutch lever is less, but that only changes gradually so you might not notice. I have 80,000km on my original clutch. On sport bikes its a must to put heavy springs in , Clutch will last 2 to 3 times longer, The weak springs in stock form are for the kids and women, I have the heavy duty springs for my Y2K but never got around to putting them in when i learned the KLR was the same ciutch plates as the ZX1100c, . And i have 2 sets of new kevler plates for this bike, If your replacing the clutch i would put them in , No question about it. The clutch on my A1 was still going strong when I sold it with 40,000 miles on the clock. I didn't abuse it, but I did do a fair amount of off-road, including some fully-loaded dual-sport touring. Arden Kysely A11 "Mr. K"

I'm researching a source; I'll keep you posted & I'll try to get a set for you too. I'm not desperate to do it yet. The clutch on the Tengai is just starting to feel "funky" but not really slipping. I'll can do the clutch anytime after obtaining the springs, maybe in 3-4 weeks. Mark B2 A2 A3

Anyone replace the clutch on their KLR? was it difficult? how many miles is average for a replacement?
