16t front sprocket
I just got mine.
Can someone point me to an on-line procedure on how to replace it?
Is there anything I should pay extra attention to?
Also, my new bike is going to have 500 miles in a few days.
I don't trust the dealer (I checked the battery installation yesterday
and they didn't even screw the negative cable in, it was literally just
sitting on the negative battery terminal!).
Is there anybody in my area (Los Angeles/El Segundo) with more
experience than me, willing to help me out with the 500 miles
maintenance (valve adjustment plus some general training on the bike
maitenance and tuning?).
I won't pretend to be a cute girl, but I'm Italian, so I can bring wine
and homemade pizza!!!
Thanks.
Giorgio

Hey Giorgio!
Sounds like you could use some FAQs!
http://www.bigcee.com/klr650faq.html
The counter shaft sprocket can be quite tight to get off the first
time, but doesn't involve any real problems other than figuring which
way the aftermarket goes back on.
One of the great things about the KLR is the support from all the
Gurus on the various sites like this one and many great procedures
available, like on the FAQs site.
Cheers and welcome to the World of the Mighty KLR!
Rod,,,Thinkin Giorgio is one step ahead by not wanting the dealer to
touch the bike...

You are now a KLR owner. Repeat after me: BEER and pizza. Pizza and BEER! If you can't find someone to help you out, I have a VHS that steps through the valve change procedure, which you are welcome to have. Just let me know and I'll mail it to you. Personally, I didn't use it. I followed the Clymer procedure. If you don't have a manual, that's the first thing I would suggest. Equipped with the Clymer manual, I doubt you'll need any help. I didn't and I'm no mechanical whiz. Randy>

Hi Giorgio
When I first got my A17, I took it down to the Julain
tech session. There we did my first 500 mile service.
It was great. We did the valves, doohickey, oil and
filter, sub frame kit etc. Most fun I had in along
time.
The next tech session is Nov 13. You will want to buy
your parts from Fred beforehand and you would want to
stay in Julian the night before so that the bike will
be cold in the AM. I just coasted mine down the hill
from the Julian Lodge to the fire station.

Wow... This is great! I didn't think I'd ever find another club
where guys are as generous with their time and knowledge as my 4x4
club is... Kudos to you guys!!!

ps- I'm ONE of those guys in that club, so it's nice to be on

The tech sessions are locations selected to allow the KLR Gurus a
place to gather the maximum number of KLR novices in a given area to
help with various service and repair issues, like valve and doohicky
substrate.
Rod, wishin they happened at his convenience!

Any on-line source of information about the one going on in Julian,

Thanks for the info.
