klr value and security questions

Post by skeet_arkansas » Thu Oct 07, 2004 3:38 pm

Hi all! New here, and about to pick up an '03 KLR with 3000 miles onnit for 3000 bucks. It looks/sounds good, no scratches etc, shifter and other things look new. This price sound pretty fair to yall? I thought so after all the looking around I've done, but thought I'd axe your opinion. Second: What's the best security methods that folks are using for anti- theft, etc? I've been researching security on motorcycles in general, but figured I ask here. What do you folks do to keep four guys from walking away with your ride? Thanks in advance, and I hope to catch up with yall on the road this year.... Mike Hot Springs, AR

------------------ reply --------------------- I'd buy it for $3,000! As far as security goes, can't be of much help - I live in an area where you can pretty much walk away from your car - or bike - and leave the keys in it. I usually just pull my key and leave helmet and jacket sitting on the seat, unless I'll be gone for an hour or more. All I know about Hot Springs is from reading Stephen Hunter books. ;-) Mike Lititz PA

Get the heaviest, lock and chain you can afford, and lock the bike to a solid object too large to carry away. Preferably through the frame and one of the wheels. Abus makes pretty good stuff. The ignition key lock only serves to keep some dumbass from turning on your headlights while you're away. It provided basically zero security. Devon

I have this anxiety daydream of some little kid messing with the bike and making it fall on him. I think engaging the ignition lock will make that less likely to happen. That's why I usually leave it in the locked position. Bogdan

Then I would go to ronayers.com and order it through them. I get all my stock OEM stuff through them. MrMoose A8 (Barbie and Ken special)
