binding rear wheel

Post by nasgroup » Mon Sep 20, 2004 2:13 pm

Hello All, Just put on a new rear tire, re-lubed, and re-installed the tire. Everything lines up ok, the brake rotor slides under the pad, tire is centered etc. Once the axel is put into both swingarm holes the tire binds up big time. I can rotate it but it requires too much force, definitely not a free rotation. The bearing rotates freely, the bearing "covers" are ok. When I slide the axel out of the right side swing arm hole, things see ok and the tire rotates freely. ....so are their any thoughts on what I did wrong? something in the hub? The bike is in neutral ;-) thanks....

Sounds like you either put the spacer in wrong on the left (sprocket carrier) side or left it out. This is the spacer that lives between the sprocket carrier and the cush drive, or maybe the spacer that lives on the end of the axle. Check the Kawasaki web site and look at the exploded view of the rear hub assembly if you wish, the spacer is part # 92143A or #92143B depending on which side of the carrier it lives on.

Looking for a used Sherpa, DR200, or XT225 in the southwest. These things are hard to find used! Especially the Sherpa, which is what I'm after. Snaps to anyone who can help get it registered legally in CA. KLR250 is excluded - want pushbutton start. Anybody seen one? RM
