dealer invoice price

Post by saneno » Fri Sep 10, 2004 6:13 pm

Hi, I'm new to the group. I am looking to purchase a KLR for my 1st bike, and want some info before I start negotiating with the dealer. I was trying to find the dealer invoice price for both 2004 and 2005, but have been unsuccessful. If anyone has that info, or knows where I can find it (for free), it would be much appreciated. (I searched the faq, and the archives here and did not find any info) Regards, Ed

I don't know the exact price, but the dealer cost on a 2004 KLR-650 is about $4,500 excluding freight. The system is a bit more complicated than this, and some dealers get lower prices, rebates, etc. Just like car dealers. MSRP 2004 KLR-650: $4999 MSRP 2005 KLR-650: $5099 If you really want to haggle with the dealer, and they are game, offer 5% less than MSRP -- or simply tell them that you are going to buy a bike from the dealer that will give you the lowest price - assuming that you have choices within a reasonable distance. I am very loyal to my local dealer and wouldn't ask for much discount from them, but when I car shop, it's an entirely different story. A cocky Ford salesman said to me (my last new purchase, in 1993) "We sell every Explorer that comes in, soon after it gets here". My response: "Well, I am going to buy one from SOMEONE, and if I get it elsewhere, that's one less that YOU will sell." Mike

When I purchased my 2002 A-16 according to cyclebuy.com the invoice price was about $4300 not including frt. and dealer prep. The Cycle World International dealer show at Seattle at the time was offering a show special on the KLR-650 at $4100 and me being the fool that I am walked away thinking I could get the same price from my dealer back home in Montana. My local dealer could not even come close to that price and had no clue about the show price. If you live in an area where you can attend one of the shows coming up this fall you may be able to pick one up at a killer price.

It depends on where you live. Invoice price means nothing in California - S.F. Bay Area. it's MSRP + fees. if you pay more then $6000 out the door, you are getting screwed. if you are payin $5800 or less, its good.

As a Montana resident living in Oregon (at the time), I paid $4700 plus $50 for 4 years registration and title, that was just the price my dealer charged. He also offered me $4000 on a trade in on a used V-Strom, I almost had to take him up on it, but was moving and didn't need all that hassle. My Uncle purchased his KLR in Canada, I think he was couple hundred under $4000 U.S., but had to go get it and bring it to Montana. He is a lister so maybe he can add to this.

In reference to nephew Scotts post #119050 the price I paid for a new 2002 A-16 in April of 2002 was $3750 USD out the door. The price reflected a very favorable exchange rate at the time and the dealers willingness to sell cheap. The downside to buying in Canada is that if you are worried about a warranty, the US dealers ,at least in Montana will not work on imported bikes from Canada. In fact the dealers assoc. in Montana is working very hard right now to stop all importing of new motorcycles from Canada ,because there is quite a flood of of new bikes coming in from north of the border.

stock exhausts, anyone?

Post by realpolitiklr » Mon Sep 13, 2004 3:15 am

Hello, folks. I just picked up an A6 two weeks ago. It is the first bike I've ever owned. The color scheme is quite dreadful, I think of it as a Barney/ Baby Bop scheme, but my friends say that it looks like Barbie picked out the bike for me. I am having a whole lot of fun on this thing. DPO put a Supertrapp offroad muffler (he hacked away part of the rear fender to do it) and rejetted things so that the engine now runs too rich (soot everywhere)! He says he threw away the stock unit. The supertrapp is too loud and too much hassle (repacking, melted plastic, etc.) for me, and I just want to go back to stock. Plus the DPO stripped out two of the capscrew holes, and busted the head off one of the capscrews on the disc holder thingy in the back of the muffler, so it is pretty well worthless. Any of you folks have a stock exhaust laying around that you would be willing to part with? If you are interested, I would be willing to send you the supertrapp for you to fool around with, but really all I am looking for is a reasonably priced stock exhaust. I figure I can rejet pretty cheaply on my own this winter. Anybody? Also, I am thinking of purchasing either Metzeler Tourance or Dunlop D-670 tires. Which will deliver the better value for money? -realpolitiKLR
