new transalp--nklr

Post by tomklra14 » Tue Aug 10, 2004 9:59 am

An article at Motorcycle Daily (www.motorcycledaily.com) states that Honda might be bringing out a new Transalp with a 750 cc motor with a new chassis and styling. The article also states that Honda probably will not sell it in the U.S. because of a belief that the market is too small. It seems to me that the Suzuki V-Stroms, the KTM 950, the BMW GS bikes and, of course, the KLR are popular bikes (however, I don't know what the sales figures are) and there also seems to be more interest in adventure touring/dual-purpose riding. Do you all think that a new Transalp would sell in the U.S.? I have been looking at the V-Stroms (because I would like something with more power for long distance touring and don't want a sport-touring type bike) and would definitely consider purchasing a new Transalp if it was sold here. Are there any rumors about Kawasaki bringing out a twin cylinder adventure touring bike? Thanks, Tom

No, but I'm sure we could start one.

There already is a Kawasaki twin Adventure tourer. The KLV1000, I think that's the badging it was given. Of course, it only available overseas at this time. Until the KLR is gone, and that's been rumored for quite a while, they sure won't add anything to take sales from a proven moneymaker. Google KLV1000 or go here: http://www.kawasaki.de/motorcycles/enduros/klv1000.htm millerized (just a SUZy in KAWa clothes?)

Kawasaki has a KLE-500 in Europe. It's a 500cc water cooled twin. Rated at 50HP http://www.kawasaki.fr/motos/trail_enduros/kle500/index.htm http://www.ca-mc.dk/Kawasaki/Kawa2003/KLE500_2003/KLE500_2003_main.htm Also, if you look at Kawasaki USA web site, the KLR-650 is now listed under "Touring Bikes" as well as "Dual Purpose" Mike A18 tomklra14 wrote:

Holy moly batman-are you sure that isn't a VStrom? It hast the same gnarly look and a v twin (I can read that much German). I figured when my KLR wears out, in 20 years, I'd buy a Suzuki but I may not have to. Thanks for the info.

It is a V-Strom, in different colors. There are a few riders of those on the V-Strom forum. All the best, Mike --- In DSN_klr650@yahoogroups.com, "Mike Peplinski" wrote:
