tire direction of rotation question

Post by Bill Self » Fri Aug 06, 2004 3:12 pm

I just got a King KT-966 rear tire mounted for my KLR 650. I was previously using the Kenda K-270 which lasted noticeably longer than the OEM Dunlops. I like the KT-966 tread pattern which looks aggressive enough for my safety zone on dirt roads, yet more rounded than the K-270 (or the IRC GP-1 which has same tread pattern) for leaning the curves on paved roads. I notice the slanted knobs in the middle of the King KT-966 tire point toward one direction (kind of have a "V") , ... BUT there is no indicator on the tire sidewall for direction of rotation. The shop I used for mounting this tire put middle knobs pointing opposite the direction of rotation. I would have preferred the other way but did not notice my option here until I brought the balanced tire home and put it on my bike. Is there any tire edicate for which way to mount the tire /... in terms of which way the V of the inner knobs of tire should be pointing? I notice the OEM Dunlops have a similar V of inner nobs whose slants kind of point in a "V" and they are marked on sidewall for direction of rotation with the V aiming toward direction of rotation. Any one care to comment on pros and cons of RE: the "V" of middle nobs pointing "in" or "against" direction of rotation? Does it make any difference? Happy KLR Rider, Bill

klr dash board inquiry

Post by Jay » Fri Aug 06, 2004 5:42 pm

Hello Everyone, Been a long time since I've been to the group. I'm curious to see how many on the list have purchased a Duchin Dash Board (exteneded dash board for the KLR 650) and how they are holding up Any suggestions for improvement would be appreciated. To see exactly what a DuchinDash is go to: http://2wheelerjay.tripod.com/jaysworldofinvention/ I finally sold my KLR and it's living a good life in Seattle. Please contact me off list for the updates. ... and as always, don't forget to tell your friends about Jay's Famous KLR 650 VIDEO. See how to adjust your valves and change a tire. Save hundreds from what it would cost to do at the dealer. Thanks Jay jay@...
