double secret fuel reserve revealed

If you run out of gas while you are already on reserve...more likely than not the little bit of gas in the corner on the other side of the hump is not gonna do you much good. I have had to use that 3 times now and i only got to a gas station once. You lay the bike over and pick it up by the back wheel and skid plate enough to run the fuel over the hump to the petcock side of the tank. And for all that......it carries you about 3.7 or 4 miles. I bought a California subframe and the side rack mount kit from BIGCEE so i could have a jug to carry spare gas in.But now I am afraid to carry gas in a non vented plastic container like the Maier enduro jug.Do any of you do this and have you ever had any problems with it?The jub looks cool just hanging there empty by the way! I thought about running a hose from the pickup tube over the hump to the bottom of the other side of the tank and weighting it down like i have read about people doing. But for just 4 miles worth of gas it is not worth the hassle to me persoanlly. Regards,Gary

What's the longest distance you've ever pushed a 400lb bike? By the end of that 4 miles, you'd pay $10/gallon to just make it all stop. Devon

This has come up on the list before and I don't think it works very well anyway. jim

I need to get a new rear skin. I've been using the Kenda K270's as they work well in dirt and last decent on street. I ride aggressively on the trail and not the street. Most of my miles are from commuting to work, on pavement, so they get chewed up pretty fast. So... I can't afford the 100.00+ tires looking for inexpensive (K270 range) tires that are at-least 50/50. I read the FAQ there's only a few tires listed. I've never used the D606. How do they hold up compared to a K270 on pavement? Has anyone tried the Kings KT-966 50/50 tire by chance? Thanks in advance, Fletch

They use Acerbis (and other makes) auxiliary fuel cells, with their own vents, fuel taps, and plumbing to switch from the main to auxiliary fuel while riding. Usually occupying the passenger seat, and usually holding 3-6 gallons. A far cry from an enduro jug. An MSR camping fuel bottle is designed to hold gasoline under pressure. Devon

Yes, I posted favorable comments about it just a few days ago. Kurt Grife [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

Why push? I am the tanker on the rides I take locally. (IMS tank that holds over 7 gallons available). Pay me my cost for gas and I will siphon what you need to your true 5.5+ gal tank. Funny, gas stops every 150 miles - I buy beef jerky, others buy gas . As to pushing my KLR? I'll call AAA and request some gas if it ever occurs, and then lay down and enjoy the view of the sky/stars, until the gas arrives via the service vehicle. Off-road - get real. I would never, ever let myself get into a gas crisis off-road. The few times that I have found riders in distress, it was for the need for fuel, which I provided them (at no cost, dah-). Oh no, I am going to run out of gas in the outback. I have jinxed my KLR. Oh shit, I must appease the gods of "MURPHYS LAW " quickly. CU all later.
