Hi.. I just bought a wrecked '03 KLR650 with the registration marked as non-repairable. The bike only has 900KMs: has a bent subframe/exhaust/broken airbox as other minor/usual broken stuff. Some look at the damage is only "a little worse than a scratch"... Any frame all the way back to an '87 ? (some say possible) But dealer says I can only go back to an '01 frame/subframe... Can anyone set the record straight?? Thanks!

The dealer said that?? What is wrong with these guys anyway? Yes, you can put together a KLR 650 with parts from any year 87 on up to 03. There are a few changes to the motor in 96, including a different countershaft sprocket mount, but nothing big. If your dropping in a complete motor out one and into another you'll be fine.
