When I was riding a GS, BMW or some BMW group, published a Pocket Guide that showed other riders who would be willing to help another rider who was away from his home base and needed assistance. The Guide had various columns that could be "checked" to show what services you were willing to provide. Some of the column labels showing AVAILABLE SERVICES could be: Will travel (X) miles; P/U w/tiedowns and ramp; tow veh. w/trailer & tiedowns; workspace; mechanical assistance; mehanical ability (*;**;***); tools available (*;**;***);camping spot; sleep inside; bathroom; shower; space for (x) m/c; space for (x) people. Name;address;phone number(s); email; General Location: (eg) 10 N. of San Francisco, CA. USA Listed by Country-State/Prov. This Guide could be downloadable so a rider could print out the States/Prov. he would be traveling through. Feedback? Anybody have the conputer ability to do something like this, or the time?

There are a lot of people on this list that are willing to help fellow riders whether they are KLR listers or not, but many folks these days don't want their personal information stored in a downloadable file to be mined by unscrupulous individuals. A better idea might be for someone to compile the data, create a PDF file, and email it to Listers upon request. Actually - there are 2 BMW guides - the one published by BMWMOA (Members of America) which has the stuff Allen listed below EXCEPT Name and actually address. It had a general location, phone number and stuff you were willing to do, including my favorite, KK (Stop by for just Coffee and Conversation). Then there is the IBMWR (Internet BMW Riders) non-anonymous guide that includes full names, phone numbers etc. Both work well. My only complaint about the anonymous is that in 10 years + I have NEVER gotten a call to actually help someone Finally, wetleather (a Pacific NW Riders Group) has also published a similar list. Overall I think it is a good idea and would enjoy being included. -Scott

Rider to rider stuff was a welcome benefit in the early days. Now a'days a download of contact info and list members before riding off - focusing on the geographically related to the trip works well. Contact them first for detailed info, but generally, only alert those adjacent to the route and those that are present at the destinations of your travels. Of, course, this manner of incremental support may not be your cup of tea. There is also AMA's Helping Hands. There is a central dispatch number to call, give your location and what you needs are. From the database of other members, you are given local numbers to call of person/persons that would be able to help you out. Don't know if they have a KK listing, but that would be kool too. I had the pulsing feeling in the rear on an old bike of mine, I thought the rear drum was out of round or the bearing were bad. Turned out to be a group of stiff links in the chain. If you have a dial indicator see of the rotors have too much runout, and mike-out the thickness in a few spots. Darren 2004 KLR650 A18 Greg S ------------ wrote:
