dealer prep?

Post by Mike Cocorochio » Sat Jun 12, 2004 2:51 pm

Just came back from my first real ride on my new A18. I love the bike ('cept maybe the seat), but I'm not too crazy about the quality of prep on this thing. 1. Cap on radiator overflow was ajar and leaking. 2. Both front turn signals barely finger tight. (flapping around on way home from dealer) 3. Clutch lever parallel with road, brake lever aimed down at 45 degrees. 4. Battery overflow not connected to long black tube. Funny thing is that the fork height looked like it was setup ok. Maybe someone went to lunch early. So, for safety's sake, I'm going to assume that nothing is correct. I checked the FAQ for the following, but couldn't find anything: Does anyone have a list of the things that should have been done at dealer prep/uncrating? Looks like this answers my next question about whether to do the 500mi myself or not. Just not looking forward to chasing down valve shims. Thanks, Mike Cocorochio

Shims are readily available. I got my from (gasp!) the local BMW shop as many bikes share the 29 mm shims. I first got screwed by the local Kaw/Suz dealer. They sold me the correct thickness (no brainer since it's printed on there), however, they had mixed their 29 mm shims with their 29.5 mm shims that suzuki apparently uses. So be smart (not like me ) and take your dial calipers with you and check diameter and thickness before you buy. Dan 94 klx650c2

The only way we will ever get dealer prep included is to raise hell with the selling dealer and ask for money back or make them take the bike back and completely go over it...many if not most dealers have new bikes assembled by outside operations and they can take business away if customers complain,,,,a signed checklist should really be required. --- In DSN_klr650@yahoogroups.com, Howard Morris wrote:

Howard: This is exactly what I was looking for. Do you still have that blank checklist? I can give you a fax number to send it to. I want to repeat all the setup steps to find out what else they missed? Thanks, Mike Cocorochio

Sounds like this would be some useful information. Maybe on the FAQ page? Scan it in and post it as a PDF? Greg Roberts Wadley, AL --- [This E-mail scanned for viruses by Declude Virus]

Greg Roberts Wadley, AL --- [This E-mail scanned for viruses by Declude Virus] Mike, I do have the list sitting in front of me. You tell me what to do and I will share with all. I think it should be in the FAQ list. So let me know. Howard A-18 (not pink yet) List sponsored by Dual Sport News at www.dualsportnews.com. Come to think of it when I bought my A16 the sales guy had a check list that the both of us went through and yes it was all ready checked off before we started. But I think I got screwed at the 500 mile service. TTFN Russ --- In DSN_klr650@yahoogroups.com, "Mike Cocorochio" wrote:

But I think I got screwed at the 500 mile service. TTFN Russ When I picked mine up it like 6.30 at night and they had been closed for a half an hour. The salesman walked me out to the parking lot showed me the starter button slapped me on the back and said see ya. It was already dark so I didn't see that the rear inside brake pad was m.i.a.. The next A.M. I saw the damage. Howard A-18 --- In DSN_klr650@yahoogroups.com, "Mike Cocorochio" wrote:
