klr sightings - alaska

Post by agh19 » Wed May 26, 2004 9:35 am

My wife and I spent 9 days in Alaska as tourists starting 5/13. It could only have been better if we'd been able to stay longer and I'd been able to take the A13. There were a lot of bikes on the roads but I spotted only two KLRs while I was there: Fairbanks - Monday 5/17 ~10:00pm at Barnette and 7th. Seward - Thursday 5/20 ~noon at the marina next to the Kenai Fjords tours office. Anybody on the list? Alan A13 - saving up for the next trip to AK

klr sightings - alaska

Post by yahoo@smc62.com » Thu May 27, 2004 9:34 am

I'm new to the list and to the KLR. I flew to Anchorage the morning of the 15th, purchased a new A18 and rode it back to Juneau through Canada on Saturday & Sunday. The weather was beautiful. What day were you in Tok? I spent Saturday night there. I could have purchased the bike in Bellingham, Washington and had it delivered to Juneau via the Alaska Marine Highway system or on a barge but I've wanted to do the run from Anchorage to Haines for quite a while and I'm glad I did. What a great way to spend a weekend! By the time I got home on Monday morning it had around 780 miles on it. I snapped a few pictures along the way that can be viewed starting toward the bottom of this page: http://smc62.smugmug.com/gallery/116768/4 Scott A18 From agh19 on 26 May 2004:

Post by john@yokohama.com.au » Thu May 27, 2004 11:04 pm

I think the blank for the Suzuki sv650 fits the klr. I had a spare made up when I got my bike but the keys at home so I'll check and let youse know Monday . -----Original Message----- From: Thor Lancelot Simon [SMTP:tls@...] Sent: Friday, May 28, 2004 12:45 PM To: Dale Steele Cc: dsn_klr650@yahoogroups.com Subject: Re: [DSN_klr650] KLR Key? Instead of asking the dealer to make a key for you, and getting a blank look, ask him to *sell you the correct blank*, and get... well, a blank. Then you take the blank to any place that copies keys and get the key made. Most years of KLRs have at least two different blanks (right-hand and left-hand; there are a couple of other variations). A good dealer can look at the parts diagram, find both part numbers, look at your key, and sell you the one you need. A crappy dealer, on the other hand, will have to look up which one is correct from your VIN, so bring it with you. Or just look at the parts diagram for yourself, figure out which blank you need, and order it from ron ayers. I've never done it, but they _should_ be able to sell you a blank just like any other dealer could. Thor List sponsored by Dual Sport News at www.dualsportnews.com.
