After I got my V-Strom I hardly rode the KLR at all for the first few months. Even now, 2 years later, I'm still riding the V-Strom more than the KLR, but that's because it's now my primary commuter (my commute includes a fair stretch of interstate that is *posted* at 70...). But if I had to choose just one bike, between the KLR and the V-Strom, I'd keep the KLR--it truly is a better all-around bike. Dreas

I bought a V-Strom 1000 after taking the KLR from Atlanta to Daytona for Bike Week. 500 mile days are just too much for the KLR on a regular basis in my opinion. I am riding the V-Strom from Atlanta to Alaska this summer and really looking forward to it . The power is great, 100 HP and the thing only weighs 450 lbs. Rob

Well, running 600+ mile days on the KLR is not an issue for me- even w/ the 40hp motor. It does become a BIG issue when I run w/ big HP bikes... I ride as promptly as is possible, and I am confirmed lacking in thrust when running with GS 11XX and Ktm9XX, etal. I get the FACT that the KLR650, even with many external mod's, will not do the do w/o cylinder head modifications. I have piloted many Rice-burners that can transfer me at speeds of 200+ mph in comfort. They do move my ass, fast and true. But traffic is thick, and car pilots do not see me. Most are so low in IQ as to drive me to ride in areas that do not invite there entry. Now, as to the off-road issue....what this "Sand Pebble" KLR bike gives up in everything related to Power it gives back in "Flexibility". The BMW guys put up with my 90mph cruise speed, and the DR and KX guys etal put up w/ my dirt issues . Most don't put up with anything, I can validate the KLR650 in better terms, but the vets on this list do it all the time and are due the due. I expect that they will once again discuss DS and the KLR650, etal. In summary, My KLR650 is my bitc#. I love my bitc# Mike Torst Las Vegas
