stalling when braking hard
My bike stalls when I brake real hard, or rather it does about 75% of
the time. I've been practicing some pretty fast quick stops with it,
and it will stall right as the bike comes to a stop just about every
time. It doesn't do it on a normal stop, just under hard braking.
My idle speed is set at around 1200-1300 RPM. Can anyone suggest
things for me to check. Thanks, Ron

I would suggest you check the float level. It's in the manual if you have one. MarkB> time. It doesn't do it on a normal stop, just under hard braking. > My idle speed is set at around 1200-1300 RPM. Can anyone suggest > things for me to check. Thanks, Ron

Yes, pull in the clutch lever.

Gee thanks, but the clutch lever was pulled in.

Float bowl level wrong? Idle mixture (it's normal for the mixture to get a little richer under hard braking as the fuel sloshes against the front of the bowl. I had an SR500 that did this, it was jetted VERY rich. Once I got the jetting straightened out it cleared it up. -- Devon Brooklyn, NY A15-Z '01 KLR650 '81 SR500 cafe racer "The truth's not too popular these days....." Perhaps the float level in the carb is low ? Gas slings into the
front area of the carb stopping hard and it stalls the motor maybe ?

Thanks Mark. I was thinking that also, but wasn't sure. I've got
the manual.

And we all know a tappy valve is a happy valve...> > > things for me to check. Thanks, Ron > > > > I would suggest you check the float level. > > > > That stall can also be a symptom of a tight exhaust valve.

stalling when braking hard
Valves were adjusted by the dealer back in February, but I don't know
how tight he set them. Actually I was a little reluctant to leave it
with him as all I saw in the shop was a bunch of kids that didn't
even look like they were out of highschool. I'll check those myself
this weekend just to make sure. Someone suggested turning up the
idle which I think I'll do. Mine seems to be idleing a little low.
If that doesn't do it, I'll go in and check float level. Thanks
all. Ron
