tire deal in new mexico

Post by tom_greenli@yahoo.com » Wed Mar 24, 2004 1:15 pm

Hi Gang, I went to R&S Kawaskai in Albuquerque today to look at some new tires for my KLR650. As I walked over to the tire rack and there was a sign "50% off all tires". To my dismay they only had street an full knobby styles, no dualsport tires. There was a real nice girl working the parts counter that came around to see if I needed any help. I asked, "Do you have any dualsport tires"? She said no but she can special order some for me. I said I'd like to try the Continental TKC-80's. She looked them up and gave me a quote. The price seemed low. I had her check again and she took the MSRP minus 50%. I was amazed that the 50% off sale was not for in stock only purchases. Anyway, I paid $52.99 for the 130/80-17 and $46.99 for the 90/90-21. The best deal I found on the internet was $76.76 and $67.61 respectively plus shipping at tiresunlimited.com. So, if you live here or are passing through you might want to stop by and pick up a set. I'm not sure if I'll have them mount the tires when they come in or try to do it myself. They want $34 if I bring in the wheels or $46 to bring in the bike. That seems a bit high to me. Does anybody know of a website that discusses the balance process. I think I know how to do it. I plan on building a stand this weekend. -Tom

Assuming tires are off the bike, typical charge for mount and balance seems to be $15/tire - some want another buck or two if there's a tube involved. Usually about $20 more/tire to take them off the bike. Imo, more than that is too much - look around. Just find someone that does it regularly.
