Are you trying to drain the tank entirely? Easiest way to get the majority of the gas out of the tank is put a piece of hose on the vacuum nipple (huhuhuh, he said "nipple") of the petcock, suck on it, and clamp it off with a set of vise-grips. Now you can use the petcock to drain the tank. Z DC A5X A12X

I must admit this is smart if not crafty. I was thinking the question was a troll. Maybe not? This list rarely ceases to amaze me. However, I'd still just remove the gas tank, open the gas cap and turn the tank upside down? Matt

The vaccuum hose/vice grip method is an awesome tip. Thanks! Here's one I use for times when you just need a little gas to bail out your buddies who don't have a KLR-sized tank capacity: I usually travel with two sections of thin gas line. One is about a foot, the other three feet. Stick the three foot one in your tank, and the other in a suitable container, or your buddy's tank. Next, stick the shorter line in your tank. Don't let it fall in... Holding the lines between your fingers, use your hand to seal off the tank opening. Now blow good and hard on the shorter line, which will pressurize your tank, and gas will flow out the longer line. The cost of gas borrowed in this manner is usually calculated by the current price per litre, times the number of hours your buddy would have had to walk if you had not been so well-prepared!
