i'm new to the group and am am thinking about buying a 1998 klr 650 locally. it has 15,000 mi.on the clock. it has just had a valve adjustment and has new tires. it is in excellent condition, extremely clean, the guy that owns it rides it to and from work locally. also has a supertrap pipe. the guy is a new father and wants to sell it. he wants $2300.00 for it and i was going to see if i could get him down to $2,000.00 i have a 98 triumph tiger and a few vintage bmw's but would like to buy something to take to the mountains in north carolina periodically and ride the fire roads and trails, etc., also around town here. any info. i can receive would be appreciated, as i want to get it before bike week if i do buy it. thanks, britboy (jacksonville, florida)

I'd pounce upon it! Any post 96 with 15000 that's been serving it's master instead of sittin around won't let you down. Plus, good luck findin one that's in that condition period! Ah, yes, Naval Nuclear Power School, Bainbridge, Maryland 1973. Pickett aluminum with it's plastic hard case. Tune it up and 3 digit accuracy, sometimes more if the result was on the left hand side. Nuclear submarines, another place were failure is not an option. In space the maximum living space pressure differential possible is 14.7 psi. Bottom of the deepest part of the ocean, approx. 15,000 psi. Later on in my career, I was a senior quality assurance inspector for submarine repair. I used to say if one went down and didn't come up, I'd be wishing I had been on it. Remember the Scorpion and the Thresher. Regards, Sam
