I'm thinking about purchasing a KLR650 for long range trips on the highway and dirt roads (Alaska,British Columbia,etc.)and am concerned about the weight and center of gravity going down the road with the 18 wheelers out there.Do they tend to blow you off the road??? I'm use to riding a Honda 1800 VTX heavy bike,great on the open road but no good in the dirt!Would appreciate the info before I buy. Thanks for your time.

No, of course not, but you will be moved around for sure. I've found my KLR to be less succeptible to getting blown around on the highway than the Vulcan 750 I had before it. My KLR requires a bit more attention at high speeds than other bikes I've ridden to keep it from wandering, but I've never felt particularly bothered by crosswinds or turbulence caused by traffic. -Lujo willtravel1 wrote:

In addition to my KLR 650, I have a '95 Honda VFR 750 and an '89 CBR 600 Hurricane. The two faired Hondas are always (slightly) more affected by sidewind and big trucks at highway speed than my A16, but it's easy to compensate, resp. not to fight it. Lean a little and enjoy the ride... :] Hans in Minneapolis

Amen to bridges, Chesapeake Bay Bridge in Maryland on a windy day , scary, yes!!!!! Also I had a problem with a major thunderstorm that I got caught in during the summer, high winds blowing from my left to right, rode home 18 miles at a severe left hand angle!! Trucks, no problem, I do tuck my legs tight to the tank and hunker down a little when I pass live-haul chicken trucks on 2 lane roads where I live, you know, all them feathers!! I have a VTX as well as my KLR. I would never be without my KLR (or something very similar). The KLR gets blown around some, you learn to live with it. West
