Hi guys, I'm sure there are alot of you here that remember this great series, I happened across a site that has alot of info and items from the show. That all seeing eye decal would sure look good on my KLR. I think this show is still aired on Turner South at various times. Maybe someone on the list can confirm this. www.thencamebronson.tv Dan

For its time, that was a pretty cool show, albeit full of hokey Hollywood settings for a motorcycle. Remember some of the off road scenes with that Harley? The concept and the image, however, was fairly cutting edge for the day. Heck, as an impressionable young man in high school, it inspired me to get a motorcycle. That "hitting the highway" mentality is still with me. Thad Carey A15 (GI Joe meets Barbie)> Hi guys, I'm sure there are alot of you here that remember this

Funny - Then Came Bronson - In 1976, I lived it - but I needed to earn money
so I traveled slower - My bike was a 1958 pre-unit Triumph 650 chopper -
Lovely electronics~ 0 joke 0
Man, before Joe Rocket etal, Trash bag ponchos and paint-tarp wraps for
sure!
17-years old and living a dream w/o cash - Geez - what was I thinking///
Hey, I left one week after high school graduation and I would not change it
- a great summer doing Bronson - even though I blew all my money on that
bike, in spite of the Lucas 'knight of darkness', always best when wet ;-(
I should not have sold it in Portland, OR - I just needed bucks. And I
couldn't pay for yet another "Lucas" issue.
Oh, to have had bucks back then. I figured out late that riding a 1958 Lucas
electronics bike in non-dry Portland, was not good for my wallet. Hell, the
Local Triumph, BSA and Norton guys were greasing and taping - I was to learn
later that Lucas could work. But never on the my zero budget (at the time).
Thanks for the memories. Almost 30 years ago - I am not getting older, I am
just losing my youth;-\

Yeah, I loved that show. I can remember being inspired to take a
solo long weekend camping trip to the B.C. Interior as a 16 year old
in September of 69. Thought I looked very "Bronsonlike" with my
sleeping bag rolled up and belted to the handlebars of my 250 BSA
Starfire.(ok the bag was yellow with a bit of a floral pattern but
it was all I had).Started off ok but rained non-stop Sunday and
Monday, apparently Bronson didn't need raingear. I can smile now
thinking about it.Would love to see that series come out on
DVD ....cosmo

You picked the right color! (Red) We really need another bike for two-up riding, and I've been thinking about a Concours. Do you have any thoughts on that, and on the bike in general, that you'd be willing to share? Hmmmm? Where to begin?
Well, let me begin by saying it is an 'old' bike - in design (first came
out in '86) - and many editors like to say it's, "Long in the Tooth."
Personally, I like to think the bike has aged gracefully and, IMHO, still
looks nice. Being carburetted, it's also a bike YOU can work on. No
sophisticated, high $$ diagnostic/tune-up equipment is needed to keep it
running at peak performance. The (16) valves use screw/locknut type of
adjusters, so there's no shims to worry about. While Kaw says the valve
adjustment interval is every 6000 miles, I have eventually been able to go
26K before I needed to tweak a valve. Actually two, and these were well
within factory spec., but out of mine. They changed about .001" in 26K.
My next check will be at 100K.
It is a heavy bike (600 lbs+ wet), so it isn't a sportbike, however, the
bike can surprise you on how well it handles. I have seen this bike put
many modern sportsbikes and their riders to shame in the hands of a capable
rider. Quite frankly, I no longer have the 'nads for all that it is
capable of.
It is also an able tourer, either solo or two-up. There are many who carry
their SO's all over the country to rallies and the like - some of them
pulling trailers to boot. No, it doesn't have the creature-comforts of a
'Wing, but I have also never really heard any of the pillions complain too
loudly about how uncomfortable they were. My longest personal trip was
approx. 1800 miles in http://www.mindspring.com/~gbyoung2/misc/pond/over_the_pond.pdf
and, if you haven't fallen asleep yet:
http://www.concours.org/eu/photos/denmark2002/hansreport_denmark_2002.html
I routinely make 600-800 mile trips in a single sitting going back and
forth to COG (Concours Owners Group) Rallies a couple of times each year.
The bike is also an excellent commuter, which now shares that duty with the
KLR.
As the Technical Editor for COG (an excellent support Group, BTW), I dish
out (high) mileage stickers to owners whose bikes have achieved 50K, 100K,
150K, and 200K. I will be presenting one to a friend of mine up in
Hanover, PA later this month. His '95 (same year as mine) has racked up
150K. His bike has been all over the country carrying his wife, and more
frequently than not, towing a trailer. There is also one fella in Alaska
whose bike is approaching 300K. I'll need to design a special sticker for
that one.
Having said all of the above, the absolute best thing about the bike is its
price. If you're a capable negotiator, you can get one out the door for
less than $9000. IMHO - They're the best bang today for the buck for this
type of bike. Quite simply, the bike does everything well for the $$ spent.
You asked.

Geez, Guy, how geeky does that pic of you and the 305 look by today's standards?....Hmmmm...well, better than I looked back then. My Suzuki 350 Rebel twin was my Bronsonmobile--couldn't hardly even read the instruments at times with crap strapped all over the bike. Too cheap to buy the Suzuki luggage rack, I cobbed together some hideous contraption scrounged from behind a motorcycle shop and "attached" it to the bike. In retrospect, its a wonder stuff didn't fall off the bike and insert itself into crital parts of the drivetrain or wheels. Guy, at least when you took off from that stoplight (after the schmuck in the station wagon says he wishes he was doing what you were doing), your bike at least had a little of that 4-stroke Harleyesque throaty sound. My ring-a-ding-ding didn't quite instill that element of the image I was desperately trying to emulate back then. I did have the leather jacket, however, LOL! Good memories.
