more led applications for the klr650- get the watts for other i
The LED "bulb" replacements aren't worth the money IMO, the problem is the
visibility is lousy from an oblique angle, straight back okay but from
anywhere else the light is just to dim. I purchased the Brake! LED Panel
sold by Dual-Star and while more expensive than the bulb is an excellent
product. In fact have been stopped by 2 police officers, one to chat about
my speed, but the topic got on the led and the other just followed till I
stopped, wanted to look at the bike. Both were impressed by the brightness
and visibility of the light (set on strobe for 2 sec. and then solid), no
tickets, only compliments. Also when I moved the plate onto to the fender I
dropped the license plate light to save the wattage. No problems and when I
was a full time LEO it a common reason to stop and chat with someone, think
the led is lighting it enough to not be noticed it's missing.

What is the power output on the KLR alternator? I would think it is
around 100 watts (8 amps) or more. How much extra power is available for
accessories?

What, the panel light was cop bait? How many LED's? What was the
disbursement angle? Oh, Lumens? And was it a simple red herring to stop a
racer?
Can I hear more from others, please?

Cop bait? Don't understand the comment sounds disparaging,
18 leds, disbursement angle? easily seen at a 45' angle. The 20 bulb 1157
wasn't visible at the same point in daylight.
Lumens - Documentation and packaging doesn't state. Check out Dual-Star.com
or Homebody-design.com for technical information
And racer comment again sounds insulting, don't understand that. I was
traveling on state hwy in western WA was stopped for 68 in a 60. I was
polite and the trooper commented on the flash and brightness of the tail
light. No ticket. 2nd occasion was in eastern WA, Yakima Co. a deputy
followed me into a gas station, he rides as well, stated he was interested
in the bike and we chatted, I got fuel and left.

I expected Word XP to get it, not.
The KLR 97+ is 17A (per what I have read) not W (which is math related to a
combined value of V and A). prior versions were 14ah - (manual page 1-5) -
'97 etal are 17ah ( oh, from what I read).
Ok, so I have 17A - same question, same load options, same positive result.
Excuse me -
Back to the point?
Getting the vowel corrected is my issue, but then the Q was not addressed.
LED etal, as useful for reduction in Amp draw reductions and survivable in
shock- riding / off-road?
Mike T
Ps - thanks for getting my W and A together, as there must be accurate.

more led applications for the klr650- get the watts for other i
In California vehicle code 26101 says ANY modification of the
lighting system from stock is violation, but the biggest issue is
color changes, extra colored marker/vanity lights, or reduction is
brightness. Lots of times it is just just a reason to stop someone
and if not it is a mechanical fix it ticket, unless your dumb enough
to admitt that you knew it was illegal, don't give a s@#t, and intend
to leave them on. Most people view "cop bait" as a BS reason to get
stopped but the reality is that it is a risk of modifying any motor
vehicle. Again, the cop has to know that it has been modified which
tends to be unlikely unless they are a rider too, but then most just
want to check it out.
Ojn the LED issue, I just did the full conversion, tail lamp (dual
star), turn signals (radiantz), rear running lights, and will be
doing the indicators soon. Brightness directly looking at the bulb
went way up, off to the side went way down for the turn signals, but
not the tail lamp. I think this is more due to the mounting of the
bulbs and design than anything else. the tail lamp sits further out
in the housing where the turn bulbs are deeper in the housing. My
experience with the 1157/1156 bulb type LEDs is that they suck.
expensive, not as bright, and poor visablity angles.
The conversion was a fair amount of work, with some bugs that need to
be work out, but it was worth it IMHO.

200 watts should be enough power to run my Gerbing jacket and gloves. But, I think you would be cutting it close if you plugged in a set of heated pants. Thanks for the clarifications!
The LED issue regarding field of view limits, and also the lumen output of
each LED, is relevant.
Still, the idea of getting some extra amps back...
Yummy!
Also, the cops issue - not much different in now californicated Nevada.
