2004 klr-initial impressions

Picked up the new KLR this afternoon. Was able to put about 50 miles on it after work. Although I had a 1998 KLR, after 3 years on a Goldwing I forgot how much fun it can be to ride a bike that can go pretty much anywhere. The bike is a blast, even if I have to keep it under 4000 rpm's. Since there are no real changes in the bike to report to this board, I guess the only thing I can really add so far is my reaction to the new color scheme. I think the bike looks great. The combination of black and deep red, with silver and a touch of gold all work together really well. It turns a lot of heads and has people approaching it when it is parked for a closer look. There is a lot more black on it than I thought it would have, including the seat, and I think it works. Rob '04 KLR

Finnally had some nice weather and put on about 20 miles after work. Coming to a stop sign a few kids were by the intersection, one said out kinda loud "Wow, thats a really nice dirt bike". I have been enjoying the bike on the road so much, I actually forget it is a "Dual-Purpose" bike. My buddy in work keeps asking me when we are going riding off-road, he has a 3 wheeler, and a "Raptor". I tell him, "what are you - nuts, me get this bike in dirt?" For now, I can't imagine taking this nice looking machine to the dirt trails off roading. I love the bike. Glad I didnt get the XR650L, this definitly was the best choice for me..........

Since Kawasaki was kind enough to print all the conversion formulas in the back of their shop manuals I took the time to transfer it into a spreadsheet. Pat G'ville, Nv [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
